I have been doing research on Christianity, after a lot of thinking and deliberation I have come to the conclusion that the religion in practical terms has nothing good to offer.

They are opposed to key things that in my mind are very important.

- They oppose global warming
- They are opposed to evolution and science
- They are opposed to abortion but they are pro death penalty
- They are opposed to free thinking and logic

It seems mainly people the caliber of bush are drawn to this religion here are some videos to prove my point that I came across during my research.

First, I think the questioner meant that they oppose the concept of global warming, they don't believe in it.
But to answer the question, I believe that Christianity and its many cults attract the lowest common denominator because too many people are lazy and want to be told what to believe. They are perfectly willing to be sheep.
I hope that answers your question.

- They oppose global warming - .... Isn't that a good thing? I don't want global warming so thus, I oppose global warming. *wink*

- They are opposed to evolution and science - Opposed to evolution?? Hmmm... Well not quite.. I just haven't seen enough evidence to believe in it. And I am not opposed to science. Science is irrelevant, the same with auto mechanics. It simply doesn't relate to God.

- They are opposed to abortion but they are pro death penalty - Oh and abortion is a good thing!? C'mon 1,500,000 babies aborted in the US every year. Do you know that is more than the amount of soldiers killed in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I and II, Vietnam, Korea, the Iraq Wars, and every other American war combined. Imagine all those wars all in one year, every year and that number will = or be less than the number of abortions. That isn't "a woman's right" that is genocide. There are also more abortions than deaths from cancer, AIDS, and heart disease combined. And the death penalty I don't support as a religious act, it is only secular. It is up to the secular couts to decide whether or not anyone deserves the death penalty.

- They are opposed to free thinking and logic - Huge misconception. The only thing we are opposed to is freedom from responsibility. Everyone has free will, but you are responsible for the choices you make. This point you really cannot even push because I am very much a free thinker and you could challenge me on that point because you will utterly fail in proving I am not.

Umm pretty much everything you said there is wrong I'm a Catholic, and I'm very intelligent. I got a scholarship to a private Catholic high school, so I know my stuff. Now, I will completely dismantle your question:
1) Global warming is a crock- we're in an ice age right now (the definition of an ice age is a period of time when there are ice caps-look it up), the temperature is naturally getting warmer, as the ice caps have been receeding for millions of years as we are going from a time of a full blown ice age to a period without ice caps
2) Evolution and science are great- what you must realize though is that God the Almighty sent the process of evolution into motion (it didnt just randomly start up one day)
3) Yes we are opposed to abortion, but we are also opposed to the death penalty (at least Catholics are). I dont know where you read that lie
4) Free thinking and logic are great

Religious people definetely dont have a "war on logic"
Some of the worlds most intelligent people in the world are religious
My only request of you is to stop polluting the internet with your anit-religion crap

I will pray for you tonight.

what religion or religion itself? All Religions are good. Why dont you try looking for some good things. Forgive and Forget comes from the Bible. I"m agnostic i'm not defending anything. I do respect religion becaues it gives people a sense of self. Everyone is different., you would have study EVERYOEN and get a view point from an entire religion population to really say something about it. other then that all the research u do is really hard to prove. The Bible has a lot of stuff good and bad. but it wants the reader to get the good out of it. Same with the Qur'an which is a very very facninating book. And a lot of the problems we are faced today reiligious groups are helping the most with. Examples: Starvation in Africa, AIDS/HIV all that kind of stuff. Helping sick and poor, all that.

I agree, with a few points you made..

1) you bet I am AGAINST KILLING BABIES

2) I am FOR killing convicted first degree murderers( like the one who killed 32 people this week, good that he inflicted a just punishement on himself)

3)Global warming is nonsense, most scientist don't agree with Al Gore because he is a liar and a fraud.

4) I am opposed to evolution simply because fewer than 10% of the America believes it has chance of being true. Most scientist, even the ones who are on board with it, say that there is NO PROOF at all. In fact, it isn't even a theory because it lacks so much that it cannot be considered a theory.

5) free thinking,, thank GOD I am a free thinker and that is exactly why I have turned away from everything my family and friends I grew up have told me about God and have found the truth.

JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!

but i guess you would say that because i don't fall for Al Gore or the evolutionist, or the losers who say that it is okay to kill babies but not kill convicted killers, that i am a fool who cannot think for himself. Perhaps its time to buy a mirror so you can take a good look at yourself.

That's just the minority of loud and extremists. There's actually green Christians who respect the environment. And there's some Christians who are so anti death that they will oppose the death penalty. Remember the extremist Christians are only 34% of the American population of Christians. That's still not the majority but it's still a good and loud number.

I've also noticed a lot of extreme Christian are ignorant about other things in life and basic schooling subjects. Not to mention alot of them lack tact and believe they have the right anywhere, or whenever they feel like expressing their opinion, even if it's in a negative light.

u r confused. Christ apeals to the low, the poor the ill, the unloved because people with power and money don't think they need a God, they think can handle it without Him. Not all who claim to follow Christ really do, they seem to have personal agendas. God in fact made us rulers over the planet. Stewards to care for it and each other. Evolution is a joke... get a clue...missing link?? that's like " I have this really great theory but I just can" get it to fit...but I know it's out there somewhere. Abortion that's just plain sad.. but God gave us all free will so who am I to take it away? Like I said Christians are only human they make mistakes and some don't realize they really are not following Christ. The ones who are loving, giving, and forgiving those are real Christians.

1) Sweeping generalization
2) Secularist Fallacy
3)Ad Hominen
4)Cynicism Fallacy
5)Reductionist Fallacy
6)Biased Selection
7)Genetic Fallacy
This list is not exhaustive of all the fallacies your rant violates.

From a debate perspective, your rant fails for the following reasons: Significance, Inherency, Impact, Relevance.

Were you to enter a debate with this as either the affirmative or negative, you'd lose on topicality before the first round was even over. I thought I'd point this out to you so that you might spare yourself future embarassments, but the sad truth is, your whole rant is no more than an arbitrary statement, and the best way to deal with such foolishness is to simply ignore it. Freethinker, huh? Must be difficult to go from day to day being a prisoner to such a shallow thought life. My sympathies to you.

As a Christian, I.... totally agree with you, the asker. Ha ha..

While I wouldn't say that I haven't seen equally many thought-challenged atheists, I have noticed that Christianity has acted as a sort of repository for those who aren't willing or able to make intellectual warfare against the world.

Why?

I would say... it's about humility. Intelligent people know they're intelligent, and don't want to submit to divine government, like a teenager with his expanded sentience doesn't want to submit to his parents. It hurts our pride, you know, to think that the most learned of our species are in profound error about the nature of reality. We'd rather be right.

Then, those who are not intelligent often know they're not intelligent, also, and feel a sense of reassurance that there exists somebody higher than them, even a perfect being.

You assume to much...

I don't oppose global warming, free thinking and logic
I don't have to agree with you, however about evolution's timescale or initiating force..or science that embraces fuzzy logic and/or gross assumptions. i would never limit your right to your beliefs or your right to speak them; but, again I also don't have to agree with you.

I do oppose the death penalty (except for harming children)

Also there are certain circumstances where abortion is necessary as an option to the mother (rape, incest or mother's life)

lastly I don't care much for Bush's brand of (papist) Christianity or his war mongering.
