I have gone to my local communhity center, local libraries, local schools, and even far away cemetaries, but none of them have anything I can do, or their ideas have been turned down by the Eagle Board. I have even gone to the COunty of Sacramento, and found what I though was a good project stenciling storm drains, but the project was turned down by the Eagle Board because "it was too easy." I need some ideas for an Eagle project, and soon because my parents are getting on my case about getting the project done.

Community Service Projects should directly benefit the community you live in. Do you know of a church that needs painting? How about a book drive for a local nursing home? Is there some specific need your community has?

When I did my service project (more years ago than I care to share right now) I coordinated a bunch-o-people in an effort to reconfigure the ditches in one section of the small village I grew up in. The end result allowed for less flooding of personal property.

Make picnic tables for a senior citizens housing area or nursing home, just make sure they are wheelchair accessible.
I know a group who went to a alzheimers hospital or home and got together with the patients families and made memory books with photos and mementos of the old person's past for them since they are having trouble remembering things.
They said it went over really well and everyone enjoyed doing it.
It would not be too easy and you would learn something too.

What about building a small home for a dislocated family/person from hurricane Katrina to live in? Are their any people in your community that moved there due to hurricane Katrina? What about building wheelchair ramps on homes of elderly people? Have you ever considered building an exercise trail at a local park or school?

It is important to find something meaningful for the project. I agree with the writer who said find a local church that needs painting, etc...
If you have a senior citizen's center in your town and you organize a group of teenagers together to paint it, or make benches for it, or something like that, it would be an excellent project.

Contact your local volunteer center. Part of thier job is to have listing of project that are needed in the community. You can call 1800VOLUNTEER to find the nearest volunteer center in your area.

Other ideas include looking at the following websites for some ideas:
1. familyvolunteering.org
2. ysa.org
3. dosomething.org

Eagle Boards like things that seem like they take alot of work.

Planting Flowers/replanting gardens
building benches
clearing trails of fallen trees
(takes longer) collecting eyeglasses/cell phones
organizing event to benefit community
____________ drive/collection

The more work it looks like, the better.
