I suffer from OCD myself. I was diagnosed about 6 months ago. I am also not very close with parents. We've always had somewhat of a rocky relationship.

My parents had no clue that I had any sort of obsessive or compulsive behaviors. I didn't even really realize it myself. I knew I was a little quirky, but I just thought that was part of my personality.

I ended up at the doctor's because I was unable to sleep at all for about 4 days straight last summer. My parents couldn't ignore this because it drove them absolutely insane that I was up all night with the TV on & playing the piano, etc.

My mother ended up taking me to my pediatrician where I had an anxiety attack in the office. The pediatrician immediately referred me to a psychiatrist who ultimately diagnosed me with OCD.

I also let my best friend know about my problems over my parents as well. I was afraid to tell my parents because I knew they would just tell me I was a hypochondriac & to just forget about it.

Good luck & I hope everything turns out ok for you!

Tell anyone you'd like, but if you have an OCD, your parents already know....

OCD is an OBSESSIVE and COMPULSIVE disorder. You do things repeatedly. Since you are 13, you live with your parents. They will surely notice this.

Chances are, what you have is not OCD, but a habbit. OCD is when you do certain thing so much that you can no longer function as normal person.

Nevertheless, tell anyone you like, including your best friend and your parents.

Don't put yourself in a box of labels. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a problem, but not something that can't be controlled. If you are seriously concerned that you might have an inability to control your behavior, seek professional help. Tell your parents, a school counselor or someone else who can help you get the help you need.

You can have the symptoms but not be OCD, many people run back from the car to check that they locked the door a few times. The question is: are these symptoms pathological? That means that they interfere with your social, family, school, job, or love life in a very significant way.

If they don't - then you're "normal", if they do - then write me privately.

If you are OCD, your parents may have noticed but have not approached you so as not to make you uncomfortable. If you are not having trouble as a result of your OCD and are able to live normally, then try not to worry. If you are comfortable talking with your parents, then by all means do so. But if the OCD is getting in the way of your quality of life, please talk to your parents or another adult you trust. OCD can be very debilitating if it's not treated early.

If you have a good relationship with your parents, please talk to them and let them know your concerns. Depending on your symptoms and the way the OCD manifests itself, as I mentioned earlier, they may already know but are waiting for you to approach them.

Either which way you choose, good luck to you!

Peace,

Beki

Your friend can't help you get the help that you will need to determine if you do have OCD and then help you live a productive life if it turns out that you do have it, but your parents can. You have to tell them.

Best thing is to talk to a doctor first.

A lot of people who think they have OCD find out they have just picked up habits that are not OCD related at all

Maybe the next time you see your doctor about anything - mention it to him. Doctors aren't allowed to talk to your parents without your permission - so if you're afraid they'll know, they won't.
