Went to a bake sale today and wondered whether anyone absolutely would NOT eat bake sale goods. Interested in your take/opinion. :)

As a previous band mother I buy from bake sales. Eight years f booths & concession stands make me very sympathetic towards the students standing there. My one great flop was homemade fudge that really ddn't want to stay hard on a 95 day. The kids themselves put it into cupcake papers and ate it with tiny spoons. (They liked the taste CHOCOLATE)

Depends entirely on the church. A Unitarian Universalist member would be happy to have her cookies eaten by anyone. So would the Friends (Quakers), and probably the Amish. So would a Wiccan, but we don't usually have what you would call churches. A Satanist wouldn't mind as long as you give them the money, but their cookies may be magic cookies, since their church focuses on 24/7 fun. I wouldn't eat Scientology cookies. I've talked a lot about their nefarious practices, so by their bylaws, I'm fair game for murder. Anyway, as long as you're supporting a good cause with the money you pay for the cookies (make sure they're not donating to the Stop Gays from Marrying, No Birth Control Whatsoever, Make America a Theocracy Fund), I'd be happy to wrap my supposedly devil worshiping mouth around a yummy cookie baked by anyone. Well, not anyone, but not based on religious things. Thank you, Trish!

I absolutely will not eat a thing from a bake sale. Every year our school has a huge bake sale and I ran it for two years. Talk about disgusting. There would be people who liked their fingers as they transferred their cupcakes to a different tray. I've pulled dog hair out of cookies and cat hair out of brownies. I've seen things I've never recognized. Not only that, I've seen people drop off their baked goods with their kids all gooey from dipping their fingers in or licking the bowl. Not to mention all the women I've seen come in with a cold or a cough. You can't tell me all these people cover their mouths or wash with soap after they touch stuff. Just absolutely disgusting.

I do, if the bake sale is from my church or whatever...but not from random people at bake sales. While I doubt anyone would poison the food or anything, nowadays you never know.

If it was an organized group like a church or community group, then yes. They make some of the most delicious foods from old time recipes.

But if it was some random person's yard sale, then no.

always eat bake sale food, espically if it's the Baptists having one. They are terrific cooks for some reason

That where you get the best stuff!!!! Grammys and Mommys make that stuff for their bake sales, and usually its SOOOO worth it. I don't care if I find a hair or whatever. Love those things!

Just because it's for charity, church, or a good cause doesn't mean it's not been contaminated in some way. When people cook at home they are used to cooking for their families and may let their extra good hygiene habits slide. Think noro-virus and hepatitis.
