Listening skills are important, because if you aren't able to listen well, you miss out on many things. Some people are not auditory learners, but verbal instructions are not understood if you can't listen well. You can get rules misinterpreted, show up at the wrong place or the wrong time, etc- from a practical standpoint.
In relationships, listening is VERY important. So many people spend their time formulating their next response that people aren't really understanding each other well.
I work in customer service, and we often review calls. Many times- the rep will just give a pat answer like a robot or even interrupt the customer, because they really AREN'T LISTENING to what they're saying!
Good luck on your essay! The hardest thing is getting started, I think.

Listening is probably the most important communication skill a person could possess. I think that too often miscommunication occurs because people fail to listen....everybody is in such a hurry.
It's like the game that we played when we were kids. One person whispers a secret to the person sitting next to them. That person whispers to the person next to them and so on until the "secret" has made it all the way around the room. By the time the "secret" has spread to the other side of the room it is generally a totally different than what the first person whispered.
Maybe you can use that idea to help get you started.

Ok. first think about the youre writing to. Are you familiar with the topic? is the topic makes the reader to be interested? after you have answered it all by yes. Then, now get your pen and paper. You must be in the place where you can concentrate well, you must sit properly and eat light low carbs so that it will not make you feel dizzy while thinking ideas. And now let all enter in your mind. Feel the topic while writing it. Put actions and drama and let the viewer to feel whatever you have in your article.. and presto you done a great JOB! Good Luck!

I would suggest this method
Take a blank peice of paper. Write down everything that you can think of. Good ideas, bad ideas, crazy ideas, anything that comes to your head.
Then go back through and organise and find some good ideas to talk about.
For example.
What is good listening?
Listening makes people feel good.
We need to learn, talking is not learning, listening helps.
A good listener, makes the other person feel you are listening and want to talk.
Listening means we remember what was said.
We need to listen in our personal lives, not talk.
etc
etc
etc

Listening skills are our only natural resource, that we have that allows us to visualize, understand, interpret, and re-enact what we've learned and obsorbed.
Without listening skills we can not learn as fast, our as clearly as without listening skills.
Listening skills are vital to correctly interpreting the subject at hand, weither it is learning about your mother's day, or your teachers interpretation of Christopher's columbus's Journey.
Being able to have the patience to listen to souroundings, wither that be learning in a classroom, Listening to bird songs to determine bird species, Listening to the woods, to hunt...
Listening to oncoming traffic to cross the street, listening to your suroundings during war times, listening to your children playing safetly....
it all requires skills that you pay attention to more than what you just see...

communicating with other people, there are many ways, by speach, writting, pictures, hand signals, sound other than speach, but the most common way is speach, eveyone can hear it, but hearing doesn't mean listening, listening must be something come into you mind, catching somethings, so without listening skills, you would only hear people's talking, didn't understand them, or didn't get whole picture, etc .....

If you are a good listener, real social problems could be resolved, understanding between adults and young people could be improved and you would learn a lot more.

It shows you are mature. It shows you care about other peoples opinions. It shows responsability. When you have a date it really works. Basic common courtesy
