A car in a parking lot backed out and hit my rear bumper that made a big dent and damaged my tail light then took off. A witness saw the event but didnt get the chance to get the license plate number. Is there anything I could do to get my bumper repaired without me paying since the other car never stopped? Or can my insurance company take care of the repair bill? FYI: There are no security cameras in the parking lot and this is in a public parking lot.

There is no free way to get the bumper fixed. Shame the witness did not get the license plate number.

Go to police department and file report of hit and run, giving witness name, etc. If you put in a claim with your insurance, you will need it.

However, you must have more than liability insurance to put in a claim. You must have collision. And you have a deductible which could be as much as $1,000.

I would stop by a repair place and ask for a guesstimate or even written estimate of how much to repair it. Then decide if you want to file a claim with your insurance company, which could raise your rates.

See if they know what the make and model of the car was...should be a car like that somewhere that's dented up!

your insurance company should handle the repair - you might pay a deductible - it will be a fairly expensive repair talk to them - wasn't your fault so they won't raise your rates

I am afraid you will have to use your collision coverage, and you will have to pay your deductable. I see these types of events all the time, it is unfortunate. Sorry...
