Your local United Way is a very good source of what agencies currently need volunteers. However, I can tell you that the Red Cross is an excellent place to volunteer. They have many jobs that may fit what you say, such only a couple of hours.

Your volunteer center can help you find specific community projects and non-profit agencies in your local area to help you make an impact in your community. These projects can be one-time or short-term. They can usually help you find something that will match your interests as well.

Through my volunteer center, I tutor children at the library, enrich arts and culture by helping visitors at the local museum, work at the local food bank, children's shelter, and clean our neighborhoods, parks, and beaches. There's a lot more different projects that your volunteer center can help you find in your local area.

Good luck!

Walk around your neighborhood carrying a trash bag and pick up trash along the streets and alleys for a couple hours a day. Not only will you be doing good for the community, you will get exercise as well.
