There are several reasons.

One is that tattoos are associated with those who have most often been seen with them in modern times, such as prison inmates, violent gang members, outlaw bikers and illegal drug users.

So you can easily see how they are associated with being bad, right?

Now think of a girl being bad - what does that usually imply? If a girl has a "bad reputation" what does that imply? Bad girls usually sleep around. Girls who sleep around are called sluts, tramps, etc.

Tramp Stamp rhymes, making it catchy and easy to remember and it's much easier to say than Schlampenstempel.

So it's partly from our past culture and partly the way slang works and catches on, which is helped along by celebrities calling it that. For example, Neal Boortz who has millions of listeners refers to girls with tramp stamps. That means millions of people who didn't have a name for it, suddenly picked one up.

And so on...

dont worry about what other people call it. they are the ones who look stupid when they find out you really arent a tramp. I have one there and got it long before this whole tramp stamp thing started. I'm happily married and could hardly be considered a tramp. actually, where I'm from the expression isnt even used and tattoos are very accepted, even st alot of work places. get the tattoo for yourself and be proud you have it and dont care what others think about it.

It's just a name. I don't think it has anything to do with the location but more the girl. For the most part, I don't like them but a few are cute. One of my friends has one and it's awesome and her cousin has one and it looks like trash on her. Don't take peoples opinions so personally, tattoos are for you-not them. Certain areas and tattoo designs on certain people don't work but would on the next. It's all very personal as to what looks good and what doesn't. But about why it's called a tramp stamp ... I think it's because USUALLY the girls that got them showed off what they have to a point of making others sick and look like tramps on their own. Just the stamp they give themselves. Common name now ... common tattoo.

it's a tramp stamp because it is not conservative. normally a tramp stamp is placed right where you can see the top but not the whole thing. meaning the best way to veiw the whole tattoo would be to take off some article of clouthing. not to mention that if you are dressed in a conservative mannor , then you cant see the tramp stamp. you would have to be wearing something like i shirt too small for you or low rise jeans to actually see the tramp stamp. such articles of clouthing can can also be labeled as trampy. it is commen for tramps to get such tattoos. but not all people with this tattoo are actually tramps.

Maybe its the location of the tattoo. Anything near this middle area on a girl is most likely meant to reproduce children as the girl gets older, and putting a tattoo there may indicate she isn't being careful of her impending motherhood. And they insult her and say tramp, although years from now, with children of your own, you may laugh at this. It is slang, and they aren't right to use slang. Some of these are nice, the feminine ones, although I could never consider a tattoo for myself.

I don't call it that, I hate the term. I have a tat on my lower back, It's beautiful and that term takes some of that beauty away when people judge me by it.
