I always wanted to know. When people die, is that God's will, or is it something that wasn't supposed to happen, but God allowed it to? My boyfriend and I have different views on this. I don't need smart aleck answers...and if you aren't a Christian more than likely I don't need you to answer this question..thanks.

For the person who says that death comes from sin...do you mean children die..because they sin..or just because they were born in sin...seriously can you explain that?

Sometimes, it isn't supposed to happen. Like when a baby is aborted and there was no physical reason to. G-d lets it happen, only because He never forces anyone to do or not do anything. (This is good and right... I'm really glad G-d is like that). Anyway, when someone dies when they have not completed their life, I think maybe they get another chance in some way, because, like the aborted one... He wants them to have the opportunity to choose something as well. Personally, if I was aborted, I would want to stay in heaven with G-d, but I would want to live an earth life more! Because I would want to bring light to a sin-fallen world and be able to serve G-d there (here). Having said that, what I want doesn't matter if it is not G-d's will and design. Anyway, others that die at the appointed time and have recieved thier Savior, get called home to G-d. (Also: it is o.k. if you don't know the answer to this or cirtain other questions that do not hinge on your salvation, because there are some things people aren't supposed to know yet, for thier own good... are you really sure you want to know)? OK... I'll answer the second part. Children die, not because they've sinned, necessarily... but because this is a sin-fallen world and things go wrong in it because of the effects of sin upon us and upon nature itself. (Even though nature is still very beautiful of course... I love it)!

The Bible tells us, “…All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16). So, yes, God knows exactly when, where, and how we will die. God knows absolutely everything about us (Psalm 139:1-6). So, does this mean our fate is sealed? Does this mean we have absolutely no control over when we will die? The answer is both yes and no.

The answer is yes because God knows everything and knows exactly when, where and how we will die. Nothing we can do will change what God already knows will happen. The answer is no because we do have an impact on when, where, and how we die. Obviously, a person who commits suicide causes their own death. A person who commits suicide would have lived longer had they not committed suicide. Similarly, a person who dies because of a foolish decision (i.e., drug use) “expedited” their own death. A person who dies of lung cancer from smoking would not have died in the same way or at the same time if they had not smoked. A person who dies of a heart attack due to a lifetime of extremely unhealthy eating and little exercise would not have died in the same way or at the same time if they had eaten healthier foods and exercised more. Yes, our own decisions have an undeniable impact on the manner, timing, and place of our death.

How does this effect our lives practically? We are to live each day for God. James 4:13-15 teaches us, “Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that.” We are to make wise decisions about how we live our lives and how we take care of ourselves. And ultimately, we trust God, that He is sovereign and in control of all things.

Death is the result of things that happen or are purposely done by people here on earth. Sometimes we do not even know what caused the death although we can pretty much guess that normal deterioration of biological systems is for now the result of the environment.

From a biblical prospective it seems that the original plan was for biological deterioration to be offset by consumption of a special fruit from a tree called the tree of life. Genesis 3:22 gives an explanation of this suggesting that man would have lived as long as he had access to this tree. Genesis 3:24 tells the sad tail of what happened next.

Carbon based life can expect no significant longevity without some intervention to offset the deterioration of every day life. Even if we did not poison ourselves cosmic radiation would do it for us.

I invite you to think that death was and is the result of decisions made by man and has nothing to do with a decision made by God. Salvation is a gift from God that if accepted will ameliorate all fear of death.

It was never God's will that man should die, but because of sin that is the price that must be paid. Whenever Adam sinned the entire human race inherited that sin nature. When somebody sins they're sinning against an eternal all powerful God. That is why God had to kill Jesus, because he was our sacrifice of sins. When Jesus died on the cross he had to take on all the sins of the world. The bible says it plesed God to crush his son. So if God hates sin that much it must not be taking lightly. So when you say when people die, is it God doing. Yes and No, the bible says the flesh cannot be saved, and that is why everyone must die. So yes God allows people to die, but only whenever he wills it to happen. Whenever somebody murders a baby, or another it is not God's will. God would only takes people in natural deaths.

There is a time for everything under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to sow and a time to reap. A time to laugh and a time to cry. It was never the will of God for man to die but death is inevitable for man since after the fall of Adam and Eve, the same way as aging is. It is the curse of sin. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ."

Well, I know you didn't want to hear from a non-Christian, but I just must......

The reason you 2 are struggling with this question is the very reason Christianity MUST be false.

Although the bible states 'if you ask for it in my name, it shall be done' ... try begging god that your 3 year old son doesn't die. And when he does die, Christians will just say, "Oh, he had to die, it was God's will".

I don't think the problem is arguing the question of God's will or God's allowing it.... but, I think the true question is the existence of a God at all.

Was it God's will, no. Adam disobeyed God and brought sin into the world. Sin brought death into the world. Can God intervene, Yes. Why he intervenes or doesn't only God knows. There is a higher purpose in all that God allows to happen. If we are blessed with Godly wisdom, God sometimes will reveal to us his higher purpose.
As far as what happens to children, they go to heaven. Until they are mature enough to really know right from wrong, they end up in heaven. God knows their heart.

The answer is yes, sometimes it's because God has called them home (His will) and sometimes it was not supposed to happen, but He allowed it.

There are times, like the death of Moses, when God calls His servant home. Moses had to go so that his position could be taken over, according to what God had planned.

There are times, like the death of the students in VA Tech, when it shouldn't have happened, and God had no part of that, but allowed it. He does "allow" us to sin against each other, but on occasion, He steps in and says "No, I have plans for this person important to My will".

It is Gods will that we should live forever. We are granted a limited amount of time on this earth and everyone will reach that time. God also grants us free will and if we engage in behavior that shortens our intended time on earth we have made that decision. Those who claim that all death is Gods will are foolish. Did God send those two jets into the World Trade Center? Does God want people de-capitated on the freeway. Was it God that sent that freak into that college to murder all those innocent people? Of course not. People sometimes use thier free will to commit evil acts. Don't blame it on God.

Death is not Gods will, it is what was brought into the world when Adam and Eve sinned. Evil is with us because of that sin not Gods will. He allows it until Christ returns so we learn that we can not live without Him. It makes us turn to Him. WE have to Choose, He doesn't force us.
