I may have been asleep; but, I promise you the SECOND I hear an intruder, I will be wide-eyed. The first thing that I have in my favor is that I KNOW my house and the intruder does NOT. I will listen for certain noises and I will know exactly where this creep is located. He will eventually cross a spot that I will be so well-acquainted with and I will pop his *** right between the eyes. Too much blood, a little blood, who cares. He is a dead LOSER instantly before he HITS the floor. I will giggled briefly as I remember what my mother taught me..."Never Leave a Witness." Then I will casually walk to the phone and call 911 to come and get the piece of intestinal garbage.

If you're sound asleep and he has a gun, you have poor chance of fighting him off. Your breathing will change when you waken and he'll know you are waking up before you know he's there. That gives HIM the edge on you.
You'd do better to have a dog like a terrier who can alert you when someone tries to break in. Once of the MOST ALERT dogs I have EVER seen is my Blue Heeler. NOTHING happens in my home at night that he's not aware of and he'd bite an intruder fast.

As a mother of 4 if I were alone, I wouldn't sleep soundly. We have whats called "Mother Hearing", or atleast I do. I know when something isn't right. Furthermore, my husband is usually home ,but there are nights he has to work and I know where the guns are and how to use them. They are put away where kids won't find them, but I can. I would also blast without question if I yelled "Who is it" and I didn't like the answer. Family protection is important. We are also investing in a guard dog just because there are just too many weird people out there. Everyone should have a guard dog, and a gun!

Depends on your training and ability to handle a fire arm, and to handle such a situation; most people freak out or freeze up and the chances are slim; I was in this exact situation in an apartment in Dallas, The intruder was at the foot of my bed and he grabbed my foot; I rolled off the bed to the closet where I had a 12 Ga. shotgun that I keep loaded for Home Protection, I put a round in the chamber and had it to his face before he knew what was happening"Instinct and Military training" was the key here. If you was to find yourself in a situation such as this, and you feel you do not have time to move, then you plead and as you plead for your life, you think of a distraction or way to reach your gun, but be VERY prepared to shoot, if not then likely you will become a victim.

The statistical evidence suggests that most gun owners have a high probability of shooting themselve or their loved ones in such a situation. There is also a significant probability of the intruder taking the owner's gun and shooting the gun owner with it. Your best bet is to secure your house thoroughly, such that illegal entrance is difficult. Keep your property well-lit. Keep a phone near your bed so that you can dial 911 in the event of a home invasion.

Why greet opposing odds? There is still always chance. Having a gun to possibly fight off an armed intruder is still better than having no gun...

Apparently pretty good.Lead hill Arkansas,3 months of ago.A 72 year old man shot and killed one of 2 home invaders which entered his home while he was asleep. The 72 year old grabbed his 12 gauge shot gun he had next to his bed and then shot the man standing in his room. The 72 year old then dialed 911.The second man a few minutes later came into the room.He seen his associate dead on the floor he then drug him to the front door and attempted cpr.The 72 year old didn't know nor realize the second man was also there to rob him.Realizing his buddy was dead and seeing the old man still was holding his shot gun the second man then went out in his truck and drove off.He turned him self in 2 days later due to emotional trama.

The chances of waking up, obtaining your own gun, removing it from the case, removing the safety lock and THEN shooting the intruder.................for me slim. Perhaps others are light sleepers and have better hand eye coordination. I'm thinking.....alarm system.

You are asking thye wrong questions here...the ones that you should be asking are....
Are you proposing that it is somehow nobler, or safer to be a defenseless victim of an intruder?
Is OK with you to be attacked in your own home?
Would you rather be in absolutely no position to defend your wife and kids?
Do they know what sort of a stand-up guy you are?

Since I sleep like a cat, and I am a nervous Nellie to begin with, the odds are good he's going to get shot somewhere!
