OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - is where your compulsion interferes with other aspects of your life. Its where you have an UNREALISTIC expectation of what will happen if you don't do whatever.
Does your need for clean interfere with you social life? Can't go to ... because it might have germs?
Does it interfere with your home life? No time to do anything else but clean? People who visit/live with you can't touch ... because their not clean enough?
Does it interfere with sleep/your health? Can't sleep/relax because your worried that there might be germs? Get up in the middle of the night to clean just in case you missed something during the day?
If the answer to these is no, that's not me, then chances are your just a person who really likes cleanliness. But if the others ring true, you do need to look for some professional help.

I am not a psychologist, but I don't believe that you have OCD. When stuff isn't clean do you get really anxious and feel the need to do rituals of some sort? I'm pretty sure you are just being health conscious, although what you said about "always seem to have to think about things like where i am putting my hands...." sounds like it may be an obsession to me. I recommend taking an online screening test for OCD before becoming too concerned. Try the Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive test- www.brainphysics.com/ybocs.php

No! You just have high standards of keep things clean. We are all being bombarded with the MRSA, Bird Flu and so on scares, via the Media and so this it to the forefront of your mind. OCD is terrifying as you are terrified, live life terrified that if you do not wash your hands, you might cause the next Global Pandemic of Measles. We are surrounded by germs, we inhale germs, we do more than just 'touch' them, but if you keep on thinking this way you could end up being OCD.

OCD covers a very wide range of actions. Not just washing hands or counting. It's a problem if you clean things more often than they need to be cleaned. You may or not have OCD. If these actions control a big part of your life, you may have it. And being aware of a problem is the first step to rid yourself of it...

no OCD is more of a ritual. People with OCD always have to touch things a certain number of times in a certain way. Its like a ritual. So what you have is not OCD but more of a phobia. Its totally normal. i do the same thing. I am terrified to touch shopping carts and other things.

No you don't have OCD. You just like being sanitary. OCD is like tapping the bed post 18 times before you go to sleep every night and you won't be able to go to sleep without tapping the bed post.

Okay, the most common mistake people make, (and first year psychology students), is they hear about many of the symptoms of various disorders, and believe they have them because they have these symptoms. BUT, these must be "pathological" - meaning they interefere with you family, social, school, and/or job life in a very significant way. It is only when it is interefering with your life that it is a disorder.

No, that just sounds like you are compulsive about cleanliness and have a fear of germs. It doesn't sound like OCD.

Not to worry too much, I think that you are just a very hygienic person. Anyway, i am something like you (very hygiene conscious) too.
