There is a difference between teaching ABOUT something and teaching something.

Christianity is taught ABOUT- it would be impossible to teach the history of western civilization without teaching ABOUT Christianity.

In history classes, when students learn about ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, etc they learn about their beliefs as well.

In a modern Civics or "current Events" class, it would be hard to avoid a discussion about Islam.

Classrooms are supposed to teach children FACTS, not indoctrinate them in a faith.

If a student asks a question about the Christian religion, or any other religion, a teacher can certainly tell them facts about those religions place in history.

They cannot endorse or condemn any beliefs.

You can teach students about certain religions, like how they affected history, or which religions are most prevalent in certain parts of the world, and in that teaching explain basic beliefs. But you are not allowed to preach any religion in class. (I'm not a teacher, but I know this.)

you can only talk about it historically, so if say there was a section in history class about religion, then it would be reasonable for the background and beliefs of christianity to be told, not preached mind you but told. I think if its stated as a formal question like the aforementioned, with intent of academic knowledge and not personal religious involvement then yes a student can ask his/her teacher about a religion.

although im happy living in america,by the time my kids are grown, and there kids are in school;,religion will probably be illeagal.im ashamed sometimes to admit i was born here, considering you cant even talk in a general conversation about GOD, without offending someone like god is a plague or something.
i still wish people merry christmas and dont care if it offends them.im offended that i have to adjust my freedoms to appease all the ethnic diverisity which has flooded this country.to each his own,but america was founded with a christian belief system.theres alot of countries though, that would kill you for your beliefs.so GOD bless america! we still have SOME freedom

If you teach religions, it should be an intellectual discussion of ALL religions, not an excuse to further brain wash children.

You should teach critical thinking like other countries ---makes a WORLD of difference to people. You end up with intelligent students who are less gullible to all kinds of propaganda.

I believe that the only way you can teach Christianity in the public school system is in a comparative religion class.

If you want your kids to learn a specific religion in school, you send them to a parochial school instead of a public school.

By law, if a student asks me about religion, I can answer it. Being that I am a Christian, I could only answer for Christianity.

Not where I live.
My daughter was even told to take off her cross necklace.
However, my son has a Buddhist teacher who pushes his religion off on the class. If this were a Christian teacher he would be warned or possibly fired.

No and No
There is separation of church and state here and "state" includes public schools. They've even banned praying in school.
