I live in martin county and dont have access to a boat. What are some good fishing spots around that side lake okeechobee that dont require a boat to get too and are open to the public. What would be the best bait and time to go.

From what I understand, Okeechobee's pretty darn low right now, good luck reaching water without a boat. (The bass boats haven't been able to make it in, from what I understand it's all john boats and airboats......

Edited to add....

Rodney, how dare you lie. ;) Not sure what the muck's like, so don't get stuck if you do decide to wade. I wouldn't, it is that time of year, after all. But that's just me. There are a LOT of gators down there we've got a photo of eyeshine just after dark... looks like stars....

Go out towards the Indiantown Gap side. It's been a long time since i've been out that way. But, make a day of it and find the parks. I used to use surface lures and rubber worms for large and small mouth bass. I used to live in Ft. Pierce and used to go to Lake Okeechobee. Travel all the way around the lake and do some experimenting.

You might try fishing the locks that control the flow of water in the lake .
