I am leaving for bootcamp within a couple of days. I joined the Reserves as a Hospital Corpsman. I will be doing the full 9 week bootcamp and then 14 weeks of "A" school. My question is whether or not my family will be entitled to Tricare while I am away? I am being sworn in as active until my schooling is finished, then I will be sent back to check in with my reserve unit.
If anyone knows how the benefits would work in this situation, I would greatly appreciate your help. :) Thanks.

Reservists' Families only qualify if they are activated for more than 90 days. their eligibility for Tricare will end as soon as you are done with schooling.

I am pretty sure it is only spouse and dependants. I wanted to wish you good luck more than anything and thanks for joing the team. My husband is going on twenty years in the Navy and I am in the Army...both reserves. There are a lot of parts about the military that are terrible, but it can be a great time if you look at it the right way.

I think you have to get thru boot camp first. Then ask your personnel admin people upon checking out of boot camp. They will be able to sign you up for it along with a bunch of other paperwork you have to do. I am pretty sure that is how it will be, in the meantime, call your recruiting office and ask them. Good luck and thanks for joining.
