If they send it to a collection agency and the collection agency reports it on your credit reports - then yes, it will harm your credit.
Libraries are depending more and more on collection agencies to collect over due fines.

I would say no! I can't imagine a library actually reporting you to a collection agency especially since they only have your name and address on file. It will totally affect your ability to check out books or DVD's in the future though and you will always have it hanging over your head. Why not just pay the library what you owe them and get it over with? Then you don't even have to worry about it!

Generally no, but I have heard of one major city library system which is beginning to turn deadbeats over to collection agencies. Once your debt is turned over for collection, it will go on your credit file and will affect your score.

Although library's are more effective today in collecting money owed , failure to pay a fine won't effect your credit

no. i don't think they can report you to collections without a social security number. I don't know about where you all are from but in mecklenburg county all you do to get a library card is give them your name.

How much can you posssibly owe them? Instead of wondering, why don't you just pay them, so it doesn't potentially affect your credit!
