Is it possable to get pregnabt after having your tubes tied? On Dec 12 my wife had a baby. We decided that this baby would be our last child so my wife had her tubes tied. Well my wife just found out that she is pregnant again!!! Is this possable can they have came untied, or can the doctor tell if they were even tied at all? (the DR. swears that he did tie her tubes).

it happens, it's not 100% but pretty close. it depends on how the tubal ligation is done etc. Make sure your wife gets an early ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy is in her uterus, as many women that get pregnant after having thier tubes tied end up having an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.
best of luck to you

It is rare...but very possible. I am pregnant with twins and am planing on having my tubes tied, but then I did a little research and found out that it is only 99.5% reliable, having an IUD is 99.8% reliable. So an IUD is better than having the tubes done. Also my boyfriend ( in high school) his mother had a baby 10 years after having her tubes tied. I know it is a shock, but the best of luck to you and I hope you learn to be happy about this little shock and surprise. By the way, maybe you should get a vasectomy, she should have an IUD and having her tubes tied. Between all 3 if you still get pregnant then you are just meant to be parents I guess. Just make sure you give your wife lots of support and love, she is going to be one tired mommy.

The failure rate for tubal ligations are between 18-30 per thousand tubals. That translates into a failure rate of 1.8 to 3%. Tubals done during c-sections have higher failure rates. Your body is in full blown repair mode and it heals up that tubal damage.

Tubals done at least 6 weeks after a delivery have the highest success rates. Also, using "Filshie Clips" have increased the success rates. We use them all the time, during c-sections and laparoscopically. We also do "Essure" sterilization which can be done in the office.

Be careful with this, if she is pg after a tubal ligation there is always the risk of an ectopic pgcy, which would mean that the egg implanted itself in the fallopian tubes. Please have her see an ob right away for an ultrasound to make sure all is well.

Good luck to you!

I had a tubal ligation done during my c-section last Nov. My doc told me that the failure rate was 1 in 1000. Mine had sections removed and cauterized, then the removed sections were sent to a lab to authenticate that they were actually fallopian tubes that had been removed.

It can happen. My aunt, who is a nurse, had a nurse friend who had a baby after her husband got a vasectomy, and *another* after her tubes were tied after the other baby was born. Where there's sperm there's a way....
