Most likely your computer is running a lot of stuff that you're not using. 2 things to look at:
1. Addware/Spyware. Try another spyware detector, Spybot may have missed something. Also make sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date.
2. Stop things from pre-loading. My very new computer has 12 different programs, some that I installed, some pre-installed, that want to pre-load some part of themselves at startup. Software makers do that to make their product seem faster.
Example: When you start the computer, part of Quicktime loads. When you use Quicktime, it comes up instantly because most of it is already running.
The problem is that, when you start the computer, 12 programs do that at the same time and you have to wait until the computer has spare resources for what you want to do. Even then, those 12 programs are occupying memory and processing time, which is a waste when you're not using them.
(You probably have more than 12. I'm pretty conservative in my software choices, and this is still a new-ish computer.)
The solution is to stop those programs from pre-loading themselves. Some programs, like Quicktime, offer an option to turn that off. Usually the setting is called something like "Show tray icon". Some put an icon in the Startup menu, you can easily delete that. Others are in the Run part of the registry or in services. If you feel comfortable meddling there, do so at your own risk.
Most versions of Windows have a utility called msconfig (Start, Run, type msconfig) that can change startup options. It's safer than modifying the registry directly, but you still shouldn't go beyond your comfort level. See this article for more information http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1838091,00.asp

See if you are loaded down with spyware.
Get Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware.
Then run the Crap Cleaner.
Then get a good antivirus program.
Also delete your temp files, etc.

You're probably running too many processes. Open the task manager with Ctrl + Alt + Del, then go to Processes, and see if there are any that are taking up CPU. Your CPU is running too fast. If there are processes that are taking up CPU power, google them or use Yahoo! and then take the name of the process and if it's not a required system process or a program you are using, you can close it and speed up the computer.

You need to free up space on your hard drive, close programs that you are not using, and upgrade on your RAM if you have an older computer. Clean up your HD in windows also!
