...if everyone had the same colour skin?
... if they all cooked the same food and spoke the same language?
... if they all believed in the same religion and wore the same clothes?
Or would your country be a poorer and a duller place to live?

OK, OK for all of you who think I'm being racist:
READ THE QUESTION!
I live in the UK and I am horrified to think what our country would be like without it's rich, ethnic mix. Far-right political parties disgust me and I would happily pay extra tax if it meant that people who come here from poorer or more violent countries were looked after and give the opportunity to bring up their families in peace and prosperity.
And I don't know about other areas, but I know that of all the immigrants I've met here in Scotland, I've never met one who didn't work ten times harder than I do.

Asking the question isn't racist. How unfortunate that you had to explain yourself for the idiots.

Absolutely! One of the things that makes this (UK) a great country to live is diversity and tolerance. Let's keep it that way and fight the blinkered people who feel threatened when they don't understand someones culture / language etc.

I don't think so. I have read most all the answers to this question and have a few points have to agree on.
1) the answer that the jobs the mexicans are taking in my county are ones that no one else would take
2) the paper trail mentioned leads to the grocery store for food, to the gas stations in town, the power company, to local clothing stores or wal-mart and to the doctors office where I work....yes they pay in CASH when they come to our office...they don't pull out a medicaid card or say "oh do I have to pay" they pull out their wallet and ask how much and pay.
3) would be hard to send back all the immigrants that have made such an impact in our society of medicines and other fields without our feeling it...
4) why would anyone have to have same religion? that is between him and God himself...not an organized religion anyway
5) as for the VA horror, that was a very cruel reply. His mental illness was missed by many who were in this country long before he was born, who were born here probably. You can't blame him being from overseas the reason for the horror he did....it was due to mental illness.
No, I don't agree with any being illegal for the simple fact it is breaking a law but don't group everyone from out of the states as "up-to-no-good" Thank God when I am overseas I am treated with kindness that I give to who is with me also.
Anyway, this country is made up of a mixture and that makes life interesting. But I like traveling to learn more how people think and of their ways so maybe I am more aware of hardships of other countries and wanting a better life, who knows. I do know or think our security should be better at our borders though as in other countries. If you have ever gone thru security at the Amsterdam airport you will know what I mean.....lol.

What is happening in the USA is they have no culture.
Problem is, all the Arab countries you speak of do exactly like you propose. You can come in, but all women need their heads covered. Outsiders are MADE to conform.

That poorer, duller place exists and it's called the MIDDLE EAST.

Even Holland that was once the land of traditional tulips and cheese is becoming the land run by Arabs and overrun with Mosques.

This is their goal, to rid the world of other cultures by imposing their own. Some day, the UK's national language will be Arabic and the towels once used in the bath will be worn outside.

immigrants are usually very hard working. if you come to UK, you will be surprised at how many Indian and Pakistani doctors, lawyer we have. however it was some of those immigrants that also bombed us, so there is also a downside to it. but i don't think immigrants are a bad thing generally, they are only bad when you have too many of them. then there will be more criminals, less jobs, lots of competition, i know competition is not a bad thing but it can lead to worse things, the working class don't need to compete in my opinion because the work they do cant really be improved or done better, its easy as it is.

Wildamberhoney is right, go back far enough and we are all immigrants.
If you're referring to immigrants in the Daily Mail sense, then the UK would be a very boring place to live, and it would be economically disastrous for us.

That would never happen in the US... native born US citizens are of many different races, and different religions- such as myself I have no religion, and then you have the Catholics and Baptist, and Mormon, etc...and we should all speak the same language publicly.. privately anyone has the right to do whatever but in order to be a unified country we all need to communicate with each other, and that would be done with speaking one language- and you can forget about the same clothes cause there are people that dress nice, there are people that dress horribly, there are people who wear cross gender clothes so it wouldn't change anything if all immigrants went home legal or otherwise. I do not think any legal immigrants should be sent home however... only the illegal ones need to go bye bye

I think you would find that the jobs illegal immigrants take, you wouldn't want. I know I wouldn't. I also know that if we had to pay union wage for strawberry pickers (would they do it for $15/hr?) the cost of strawberries would triple.

My grandfather was an illegal immigrant from Ireland (he didn't know the rules-- he didn't even know he was illegal until he was 70). He worked as a delivery truck driver, janitor, meat cutter, and other menial jobs all his life. He paid his taxes, and never asked a thing from the system. He also raised three daughters who went to college (which he never had the chance to do), and all his grandchildren have graduated from college. He left this nation a better place than when he arrived.

My other ancestors came to this country poor and wanting a better future for their kids. The only thing that separates illegal immigrants from the rest of us (except Native Americans) is that when our ancestors came, there were no rules to keep them out.

Of course not!

All countries with healthy, growing economies need an ever growing population of skilled and semi-skilled workers in order for that economy to sustain itself.

If there aren't enough births taking place in that country, the only way to find sufficient workers is to fill the job vacancies with immigrants.

There are so many people on the other side of oceans who so desperately want to come to the U.S. and are doing everything legally to apply to get here, but are waiting patiently for years because so many illegal aliens are forcing their way into our country ahead of them.

This is very unfair to those who are playing everything by the rules in order to get here.

They don't have this "reclaiming AZTLAN" or "RECONQUISTA" B.S. that they choose to justify their reason for wanting to live in the U.S.

This is an entitlement mentality that gives birth to a false justification for breaking the law to get here and to continue breaking law after law to stay here.

This tells you what kind of citizens they are likely to become if they don't even consider this sovereign U.S. territory to begin with!

Contrast this with the absence of such an entitlement mentality with immigrants from other parts of the world who are more than willing to be law-abiding citizens before and after they arrive here.

The U.S. is a DEVELOPED COUNTRY.

A DEVELOPED COUNTRY needs SKILLED WORKERS.

The majority of illegal immigrants coming from Mexico are poor and under educated.

This is the dillema we are in. We need immigrants for our economy, but the kind of immigrants we need are educated and skilled immigrants.

Mexicans coming here illegally know this, but come here anyway out of desperation.

This is why the U.S. needs to take control of its southern border.

Far too many criminals and under-skilled workers are sneaking across our border.

They will be an unmistakable drain on our economy instead of an asset.

Mexico knows this. The Mexican government is more than happy for its poor and criminal population to migrate northward into the U.S. because it releives the social unrest and potential social upheaval within Mexico.

It is our duty to protect our sovereignty by controlling the numbers and quality of the immigrants entering the U.S.,but to send ALL immigrants home would be nothing short of disastrous.

Edit: I'm not accusing you of any racism here, just giving my view. I hope it didn't come across badly, no aggression towards you was intended.... it was aimed at bigots.

If all immigrants went ''home", the population of Britain would be reduced to... nil. How many pure Anglo-Saxons do people think are left in the UK? Oh, that's right - NONE. Plus, even the Anglo-Saxons weren't 100% British: Saxony is Germany!

It never ceases to amaze me is the way so many people rant on about 'keeping England English'. Any 13 year old with a bit of common sense knows that there's no such thing as ''100% English''. I don't understand how any intelligent human being could fail to see that if they have even a little knowledge of our history.
