I don't think I would call it ignorance. Stubborness maybe but not ignorance.

Let me see if I understand the question before I attempt an answer.
1. John says that he has faith AND an open mind.
2. Mary says that that is not possible.
3. So, is Mary ignorant in rejecting John's assertions?
Yes, but I'm using the term "ignorant" in its technical sense and not the common meaning of being stupid. I wish I had the time to expand on this answer.

Depends on your idea of faith. I consider faith a function of spirit operating much like intuition. Faith to me is an ability involving spiritual relationships. If you will, a direct knowing without conscious reference to reasoning.
Faith then is a spiritual ability and a spiritual relationship and not a position as regards visible things in the natural world.
Belief on the other hand is any idea or concept one may form mentally; coupled with a willingness to act upon that idea or concept.
Under these definitions faith and an open mind go hand in hand.
In fact one cannot operate or experiment with faith, or form relationships by faith, without first postulating that there is a God and having a willingness to act upon the concept.
God offers an ( if -- then ) in scripture to every individual. There is no corporate proof for the majority; but there is shared functioning in the organism. This goes to confirm the individual to himself and those he is joined to.

Without an open mind we couldn't expect our labors to give forth fruit. We would be closed off to those in need, thinking to highly of ourselves.
How many people are around us, that we COULD help, but we think of them as " untouchables ", so WHERE is the Love and compassion of the LORD !!!
Real Love will cause miracles.....

Having an open mind doesn't mean you agree with everything....it's means you are open to listen and try to understand anothers viewpoint. You can still disagree with that viewpoint..I believe having faith and and open mind are mutually exclusive.

If you can't prove what you believe by faith then don't you have to have an opened mind to believe it?

Yup, people tend to have "selective open-mindedness." Quite common, actually. Good point.

You don't have to agree with everything that everybody says to keep an openmind and listen to what they are saying.
