I have been told by the optician that my eyes are OK. The GP did not even look but said I was to be sure I had a good optician and said none of the loacl ones were any good.

What I get is, about 2 to 5am, a pain in the eye ball and a lot of sticky liquid comes out that is colourless. Once this has come out it is better and not painful.

Often I get the bottom of the eye painful and it is as if I am crying. The eyes are not bloodshot either. The eye ducts are not blocked and there is no infection.

Is this eye strain from the computer?

I have always worn glasses and they are the right prescription. The eyes are OK in-between these episodes.

any help welcome. can anyone shed any light on this? What can I do about it?

As you have seen a optician and been checked out, then seen a GP and been checked out, could be a reaction to the computer? You do not state how long you are at the computer, think they recommend ten minutes break for every 50 minutes at the computer. I do know when the computers first came out at work, all those years ago, makes me sound old, I had eye strain as in pain! I saw my optician who checked my eyes and stated they had literally become 'fixed' as in focused ten inches from my nose, due to reading, working on a computer. Thankfully he gave me some exercises and it solved the problem. Now I always take a break, because I learned the lesson.

It could be an infection in your eye of some kind. You can buy contact lens multi purpose solution that can be put directly in the eye. This is used as as wetting, cleaning and disinfecting soluction. It's also a good germ killer and if you have a low grade infection, it should clear it up. Make sure that it can be used in the eye.
