Clean it with a warm washcloth. It's doubtful that it caused his blindness but it could be a result of whatever did. Have him examined by a vet.

I don't think that is the reason your cat is blind; you could ask your vet that.To clean the crusty stuff off get a washcloth wet with really hot water (by the time you walk over to your cat the temp. will be fine) and gently wipe your cat's eyes. A lot of time it is there because your cat has an upper respiratory infection. It can be treated with an antibiotic called tetracycline. It comes in a small tube and sometimes be bought in a feed and supply store for animals. You just apply to the eye while holding it open without touching the tube to the eye. Then blink your cat's eye for him a couple of times to make sure it gets in there. It will cause his vision to be slightly blurred for a few and he will sit there and try to clean it out; that's all OK. You do this once a day and anytime more crusty stuff gets in his eye, use the hot washcloth again. Good Luck and God Bless!

Well, it's unlikely that it did cause his blindness, but it's probably not comfortable, either. Has this been a problem for a long time? I clean my cats' eyes every day, it only takes a second. Just get a cotton ball wet with warm water and gently swipe it over his eye. Done! Obviously you have done a lot of things right, otherwise he wouldn't have lived to 15.

There is probably a deeper reason, including high blood pressure. If your cat went blind, I would definitely get it checked asap, it's not normal to just go blind. Wipe anything on the edge of his eyes and get some moist drops. Maybe he has cataracks? But you want to treat any deeper issue so your cat lives a comfortable happy life, they can live into their 20s with proper care, as long as nothing untreatable comes up.

That is horrible, how could you not clean out your cats eyes. If you saw the crusties, you should have cleaned them. Cats need help with there eyes , all cats at any age.
I really doubt that is the reason he is blind, but after 15 years of it bulding up.....maybe it is.

The crust in itself won't be responsible for blindness - but the condition that the crust is a symptom of could well have been, and of course you should've got this sorted out.
If the cat is blind, it still isn't too late to go to the vet to help her, she might be in pain or discomfort. You also need to have the source of the blindness investigated in case there is something else going on there.
Not to late to redeem yourself!

Of course you should've cleaned it. Would you want to walk around all day with crusty eyes and no way to get it off yourself? Probably not.
I do not believe that it led to his blindness though, that may just have been a result of old age.
