I love snacks! :)

When I get snack-hungry, I make one of the following:

* I toast an English muffin and top with peanut butter and cold fresh apple slices. This is so delicious - and when the peanut butter melts all warm and gooey on the English muffin and then the ice-cold apple slices hit the warm peanut butter, you honestly won't crave anything else that is sweet - every sense is satisfied and it's good for you. Even healthier if the English muffin is whole grain. Then you get fiber, vitamins, protein. It's good for you.

* Bananas are great, too. You can make yourself a healthy banana split!!! You won't miss the ice cream!!
Slice up a banana and put it in a bowl, top with low-fat yogurt (this is the fun part - you can get low-fat or non-fat chocolate flavored yogurt or strawberry or vanilla and make a very tasty banana split). Top with some healthy toasted almonds (they say 5 almonds a day are super healthy and you get some good protein and antioxidants). This is a healthier version of a real banana split, plus you get calcium and potassium.

*An indulgence (not as healthy, but healthier...)
I air-pop popcorn (much healthier than doing it in the microwave or in a pan - and air poppers can be bought for only $10 at Target) - and then I top with parmesan cheese when I am craving salty. When I am craving sweet, I sprinkle cinnamon-sugar on it. Yummy!

Have fun with your snacking. Get creative. What makes it more fun is if you educate yourself by reading up on nutrition... when you realize some ultra cool foods are really good for you, you'll be more inclined to eat them and then challenge yourself with fun ways to enjoy them!

:)

i always like eating celery with dip, because i love salad. fruits are also delicious and very healthy. you should look for whole wheat breads or cereals. yougurt is always a good, healthy choice! raw veggies are always a good choice, as well as unsweetened fruit juices. heres a quick, easy recipe for a yummy snack:

makes 1 serving

1 8-inch tortilla
2 ounces thin sliced turkey or ham (optional)
2 Tablespoons shredded cheese
1/4 cup shredded lettuce
1 Tablespoon raisins
Lowfat mayonnaise, cream cheese, or margarine

Give each person a tortilla. Have them spread with mayonnaise, margarine or cream cheese. Then layer on the meat, cheese, lettuce and raisins. Roll up and enjoy.

This snack could also be made using a slice of bread or an English muffin.

I'd first have a small amount of "regular" food not a snack.
Like apple slices with peanut butter on it. That is healthy and would partially fill you up. Then wait about 15-20 minutes. That's how long it takes to feel full. Then just have 2-3 cookies or instead of sweet go salty with a handful of nuts. You could add some raisins and some small pretzels and even a few choc. morsels. That would satisfy alot of your cravings.

At the beginning of the week, my mom used to take our favorite fruit and she'd melt chocolate and we'd dip them in it. Then she'd put them in the fridge and when we had snack time we'd eat a few of them. Healthy and chocolate. HMMMM
Good Luck

Take some slices of regular sandwich slice bread and down the middle third add some grated cheese and fold the outer side over the filling and the second over that.

Toast in a sandwich press until light brown and the cheese is all gooey.
They could be done under the grill in the oven.

Spread with butter.

HEALTH WARNING!!!!!
Watch your chin as the cheese will burn you.

After they have been folded they can be wrapped and frozen.

Raw onion could be used if you like it barely cooked.

Kids' Kabobs
One my 3 girls liked was mini fruit and cheese kabobs. Using toothpicks as skewers, thread on fruit and cheese of your choice. Mine liked pinneapple, stawberries and chunks of mozzerella. Or try grapes, cheddar and apples. The choices are endless and you can cater to each childs taste. I made a big batch and stuck them in a tupperware in the fridge. Lowdown where they could reach. Use seasonal or canned fruit and big chunks of cheese you can cube them down to size. They never lasted long. If they're very young watch the toothpicks

Kids' Choice
We take a six-cupcake tin and put a different treat in each cupcake spot. Some choices include: cheese cubes, vegetables, cereal, raisins or fruit, yogurt, pretzels, crackers, nuts, pieces of bagel etc. The kids like the fact that they have a wide array of things and can pick and choose. What isn't used is covered and the following day we add new selections. Sometimes I end up having to eat things that have been passed over for two days, but I find my kids eating more healthy options and being refueled after a long day without spoiling their appetite for dinner.
