I can see why your mom wants to protect you from some of the lyrics from rap and heavy metal artists, but it's hard to understand why she would think all music is inherently evil. Would this include even the great classics? Was she allowed to listen to music when she was younger? Could you engage her in a quiet, constructive conversation and see if she would share some of the music she used to love with you or even settle for listening something with you? Have you been allowed to take music classes or play a band instrument? I don't have another solution except to encourage you to have a heart to heart conversation with her, expressing a desire to respect her, but reminding her that there are great songs of worship, praise, inspiration, old standards, groovy oldies, and many popular artists that make life richer. Even birds make music when they sing, for pete's sake, mom! Carly Simon has a new CD , sung with her children, which is so sweet and musical, I would sing each song to a preschooler. How about the Three Tenor's? Josh Grogan? See if you can reach a compromise. Otherwise, I'd have to listen to good music away from home, with all due respect to my mother. She is being very unrealistic and I can't imagine depriving anyone from the joy of good music from so many genres. I'll be thinking of you and praying for a happy resolution.

All music or just popular music. There is a big difference. If it's just the popular music it's probably because of the lyrics. Try taking it slow. Find a CD you like with tame lyrics, print them out (make sure she won't find anything offensive on the WHOLE albulm) and show them to her.
If she just hates all music then start with some classical or jazz( ask your music teacher) If you can get her to like music you will be on your way to her letting you listen to it.
A Minor Bird
I have wished a bird would fly away,
And not sing by my house all day;

Have clapped my hands at him from the door
When it seemed as if I could bear no more.

The fault must partly have been in me.
The bird was not to blame for his key.

And of course there must be something wrong
In wanting to silence any song.

Robert Frost

Good Luck!

Many people would find that odd but everyone is different. I hate to say it but you should obey your parents wishes while you are in their house. I realize that you are frustrated because she wont let you listen to popular music but she put that restriction on you because she cares about you and what you are exposed to. She is trying to protect you from something that she thinks will bring you harm (even if that belief may be wrong). Growing up is rough. My parents put restrictions on me as well and at the time I thought it was unreasonable and some of those restrictions were, but in hindsight I now understand that my parents were working in my best interest. Try talking to her about what is bothering you. By talking to her about your beliefs, you may also get a better handle on why she believes what she does. Maybe in time you both can come to a mutual agreement regarding the music you want to listen to that you both can live with. Good luck!

Even clasical music?
Ask her about these Bible verses

Luke 15:25 In the parable of the Lost Son Jesus tells a story where music is positively spoken of. If music is a sin why did Jesus talk about it like it was a good thing?

Rev 5:9 Jesus is being worshiped in heaven with a new song. If music is evil why would God allow this to happen?

I hope this helps. I used to suffer from depression
and music on more then one occasion helped me when I was to depressed even to pray. I can't imagine 18 years without music.

Can you very calmly when she is not busy fixing dinner or something, ask her to just listen to one song that you choose and see if it is ok? I mean ask her if you can talk to her in private about something important when she has time. Then be sure you are nice and not upset or anything and that it is a quiet time. Then pick out a nice song and see if she could listen. She is a good mom trying to protect you from the bad things in the world. Tell her that you are smart and you wish she would know what a good mom she is and that she should give you credit for being her son who is smart and wouldnt listen to garbage. Good luck

Eck, sounds like a disorder. O_O phobia of some sort? I live for music! If I had to go even a week without music I would have to burry myself in a ditch. xD lol. anyways, I think there could be something wrong if she's always stopping you from listening to ANY music.

your mother has her own believes that she is trying to force on you music is not all bad some of it is very good for the soul and one day you can listen to what ever you want just choose it wisely sometimes parents just feel their way is right and that is all there is to it but that doesn't mean she doesn't care just hang in there or go to friends and listen to music for now
