yes, but not a real "Buddha".

The fat guy with the bare belly and a smile on his face is not actually Buddha. He is Hotei, and is primarily a chinese inception.

Buddha is in statues and stuff all over thailand and parts of Muslim Indonesia, and usually has his hair tied up in a bun at the back (I thought it was a woman when i saw it first) and its eyes closed (As in meditation)

yes u can do it to hotei too, he's considered a buddha too, trust me. but you might want to skip the patting-on-the-head part, cuz that's not really, you know, respectful. lmao... but rub his tummy for luck.

and you don't have to obsessed with doing it. its just like a good luck thing, like all good luck replicas, its for fun and stuff.
