Last week I developed a cyst with some pus filled up. I had to go to a surgeon on Monday to get it lanced and drained out. Since then the D. told me to use gauze everytime I use the bathroom and the gauze will help get rid of more pus and all that has to come out. I am feeling alot better from all that pain that I had before the drainage. But everytime I put gauze on my cut, it sticks to the cut and then when I need to go to the bathroom, it hurts so bad when I try to pull the gauze off from my cut. Is there anything that I can apply on the gauze so that it does not get stuck to my cut? As long as the pus is coming out, that's why I have the gauze on there, but I dont need the gauze to be stuck and hurt so bad when I go to pull it out? Anyone know if possibly wetting the gauze a little, or putting some neosporin ointment on the gauze will prevent it from sticking to my wound? Any suggestions, please advise!

Try using non-stick telfa pads...these are specially made gauze pads that won't stick. You can buy them anywhere: grocery stores, drug stores, walmart, target, etc.

I would not put anything on this incision without checking with the doctor. Since the area must be kept clean, I am sure you are either showering or sitting in a bathtub...if so, then yes, you could use warm water to soak it off.

Was this a pilonidal cyst?
