Searching for a suitable microcontroller for a distance measuring device?

I am trying to build am Electronic Distance Measuring Device based on ultrasound Using a 8051 family Microcontroller. I am looking for a Microcontroller from this family suited for this task, can you tell me wich one I should use; I was hoping for one that it's simmilar to the MSP430 family from Texas Instruments.

It'a an assigment for a class. I don't want to buy an already made device.

Why don't you check out the AVR butterfly instead. It has an LCD and the entire board is the size of a credit card. And its cheap , about $25.00

since your set on the 8051, i would check out atmel's uC.
