A man writhing in agony with nails hammered into his wrists..dies of loss of blood and dehydration..why then do people wear that implement of torture round their necks?
Like wearing a iron maiden or a thumbscrew!!!

I agree.
If Jesus were killed by hanging, would people wear nooses or miniature gallows around their necks?
Would churches have gallows sitting on their roofs, instead of crosses?

During the early days of Christianity, it was the pagan Romans who used the cross! Says The Companion Bible: “These crosses were used as symbols of the Babylonian sun-god . . . and are first seen on a coin of Julius Caesar, 100-44 B.C., and then on a coin struck by Caesar’s heir (Augustus), 20 B.C.” The Roman nature-god Bacchus was at times represented with a headband containing a number of crosses.

The cross is a pagan symbol and paganism and Christianity do not mix. You cannot serve two masters.
The Bible (including the KJV) says that Jesus died on a tree (upright pole)

Obviousy you don't understand the symbolism behind a crucifix.
To me it IS pretty gruesome, but I'm Pagan, not Catholic.
But, as I understand it, to Catholics it is a symbol of faith overcoming evil. The evil being, obviously, the punishment itself, the faith is the faith that Jesus had in God's word that he would live forever. (or something like that)
Personnally I prefer my Pentacle, it is a life affirming symbol. Each of the five points correspond to an Element of life, Earth, Air, Fire and Water, with the fifth point at the top signifying Spirit. The circle around the five pointed star represents the circle of life. (At least that is how I see it)

lol - yeah, to quote comedian Bill Hicks, it's like remembering JFK by wearing a little rifle pendant - (shrug) same principle; remembering what he sacrificed by wearing a representation of the method of his execution. Might seem a little twisted to an objective observer maybe, but I guess some people get some comfort from that reminder of what they believe, and it does no harm to the rest of us.

I think it's all in how you see Christianity. I think people who do wear the crucifixes do it to remember the pain and sacrifice of Jesus. However, I like to view the Christian God through an image of the Virgin Mary to celebrate the birth and light of Christ rather than the death and sorrow.

it is a symbol of life originally used by the ancient Egyptians the Ankh was the original cross. Christ was not crucified he was nailed onto a torture stake the most painful way to die by the romans. the greek word used in the bible is Stauros meaning pole It just seemed a nice way by later Hellenic christians to use the pagan symbol of the cross to make it more acceptable to pagans they wished to convert.

You may not like it...but it is not a symbol of evil...

Before the dark-ages jesus was always depicted as an elightened being...but the people of the dar ages (medieval times) could not relate to an enlightened god.

So the church changed the depiction of jesus from an enlgithened being into the crucified jesus...suffering people can better relate to a suffering christ...

That is why people wear them....

That's a typical way for Mormons to make fun of Christians who wear crosses.

Mormons don't usually like to be overtly prejudiced toward other Christians sects, but they do like to make fun of some of their behaviors.

Some Christians will reply that the cross is a reminder of Jesus dying for humanity.

But let's face it, it's an awfully silly tradition, isn't it?

It's a symbol of Christ's triumph over evil and our chance for reconciliation with the God the Father.

I dont wear a crucifix, I wear an empty cross(the sign that Jesus has resurrected).I wear it for specific reasons, humility and remembrance of what Jesus Christ did for me. It has been blessed and I wear it close to my heart.
