Over the last few days I've had a couple of missed calls on my mobile (cell) from a landline number I don't recognise. I tried to call it back this evening and the automatic phone company lady said something along the lines of please check the number, the one you are calling is not recognised, I'm certain I dialed right, I checked and redialed, the same thing happened. Very odd. What do you think this is?

It seems to be a ligitmate number (not premium rate) it has a manchester area code.
Also I never give my mobile number out, how on earth have they got it if they are trying to sell me something?

That's very strange that they don't block their number when they call you. If it's everday why don't you tell your to change your phone number? I'd call the police and see what you can do. Becareful, you never know this person may be stalking you in real life. Be aware of your surroundings cause you never know. I used to get phonecalls like that too this guy would call at first he never talked and then he would say gross things but it eventually it stopped. Rogers wireless? I'm with rogers and i live in Canada. If you're from Canada and your with bell tell your parents to subscribe to call block. It's *66 and you can block the person from calling you.

I would check it out on www.whitepages.com and click on the reverse phone number. If it is an individual trying to reach you, it will normally pull up what the number is. If it's a cell phone or a private number, it won't be listed. You say that you haven't given your number out, so I am not sure if someone would be able to contact you trying to sell something. But that is still a possibility.

It's probably a call centre, and that particular number is for outbound calls only?
People can usually obtain your details even if you haven't knowingly given them your number. Companies sometimes sell databases to other companies for marketing purposes, and it can be a very lucrative business. The phone company is the most likely culprit for this.

Go to google.com and put in the full 10 digit #.
Hopefully something will come up. But it's probably a telemarketer. Especially since they didnt leave a message.

You can try and search for it using Yahoo and see if it throws up anything, I have had a few numbers call my home and mobile phones and have managed to track most of them online.

There are black boxes that can be connected to the phone line that will transmit any phone number that you want. I would never trust a company that hides their phone number in that manner.

Ignore it. If it is important they will leave a message or try to call you again. Don't return calls to numbers you don't recognise.

Probably an insurance company. If you do get through pretend you work for the FBI or something. It scares the hell out of them.
