If they're usable, the organs are harvested as soon as possible, and the body is returned to the family for the funeral. It usually is still possible to have an open casket funeral if you want, unless the cause of death disfigured the person.

You know, I don't think that it is a good idea to donate your organs. First of all, it is dangerous for the one who donates them. If you are in a hospital in a critical situation and they know that you do not donate anything, they will fight for your life untill the last second. And in many cases the last second is very important and brings back the patient to life. However, if they know that you are donating your organs they might think you're already dead when you are still alive and want to survive. In this case they won't fight for your life as hard as in first case to remove the organ. You never know in which situations you appear, so it is better for you to keep your organs for yourself.

uh yeah???????! they remove the donated organs and sew you back up and your family has the body to have the funeral with. it is great that you can give back life to someone who needs it since your's is gone. they only need your organs. of course, if they can have skin for skin graphs and stuff, then i would think you would obviously know to have a closed casket at the burial.

They sew you back up and give your body back to the family to do with what they wish.
