Philosophically this is actually a non-issue for most Catholics.

Anti-Catholics think this gives them another weapon to use to hurt the Church.

It is too soon to determine the actual long term implications in other areas with any reliability but I think if there are any then they will probably be very small.

To review:

The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it is not a good idea. Limbo was never official doctrine.

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)

For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. The Bible does not explicitly state that they will go to heaven.

Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has been rejected.

The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.

With love in Christ.

Well, I can't imagine there will be too much for politics. Not sure.
I don't know where the catholic church gets alot of their ideas to begin with.
If that one line in the bible is true. Whatever you decide here, also will it be in heaven-I know that's not what it is, but it's close, I just can't think of the right passage.
Anyway, if this is true, and the catholics saying that unbaptised babies went to limbo-then it's a good thing they got rid of this notion.

Where exactly did they get this anyway? And all of the expensive, ornate churches. -That's not what Jesus was about. Praying to Mary. All the saints.Where did they get these ideas from?

The verdict of the Catholic Church?
Who cares? The concept of the limbo is completely nonsense anyway.

i was raised Catholic ... the old dark version, the soaked in martyr blood kind and when i was a little kid in catechism and the nun told us about Limbo i just couldn't believe it. the concept of Limbo wherein little babies are forever separated from "God" due to their unbaptized status and the concept that animals (specifically my dead kitten) are soulless were the beginnings of my questions and my ultimate escape from Christianity.

Don't you mean the church's verdict on Limbaugh?
