I see it at least every other 10 questions over the last days. "Cho wasn't a Christian", "Cho wasn't an atheist", "Cho wasn't a Muslim".

Aren't we all part of the same society? Aren't we all not responsible at all? And at the same time aren't we all also at least just a little bit responsible?

Simple question: what would it matter if Cho was part of your team? One planet = One people, right?

We are all indeed responsible for tragedies like the one at Virginia tech. Cho was, above all, a human. A tortured human who could no longer deal with the reality of his life. How different might he have been with a little more kindness and a lot less 'grouping'?

I think we as a society are uncomfortable with the notion that we can't really protect "our" children until we care for _all_ children.

Cho needed help. I don't know if it should have been in the form of the Department of Family and Children Services stepping in and putting him in a more stable environment, or better health/mental health care accessibility or what. But clearly if we let a child grow up to be antisocial, we've failed that child somewhere along the way.

Last semester, I had an assignment to go into a local school and take pictures of the condition of the inside and outside and then interview a teacher and a parent. None of the schools would give me permission to come in. Security reasons, they said.

I interviewed a friend who works for one of the nicer schools in our area, but what I wanted was to see the condition of a school in a wealthy neighborhood where the parents send their kids to private school and let the neighborhood public school go neglected.

I don't know what they're thinking. They've passed an ordinance where they get out of paying their full property taxes - money that would go to the public schools. Their thinking is that they shouldn't have to pay because their kids don't go there.

Somebody's kids do. Kids that live close to them. Why not care for those kids? Don't they realize that those kids are going to be the ones that will break into their houses one day, if they don't see the value and hope in education? If they don't see that they are valued in their community?

There was one school I tried to find that my husband later told me he didn't want me to go there. And I thought how bad that is. He was afraid for my safety and I'm a grown woman, but we send little kids there every day. It just doesn't make sense.

The school is not in my county, so my taxes and my vote don't make any difference there. I'm trying to find some way that I can influence change. But we certainly don't complain or try to get out of paying taxes in our area simply because we don't personally have children.

I could rant about this forever. It's just senseless.

It's always easier to point fingers than to join hands and help, I guess.

You are right. I've also heard alot of talk about the fact that he is Korean although there doesn't seem to be any point about the talk.
No one is perfect no matter what their faith is in. For the atheists that is yourself. Bullying affects Muslims Christians and atheists alike as well as all ages and races. There are always those who bring down the name of whatever religion they belong to. That doesn't mean that they are the standard of how a certain group of people act or feel. As for who is responsible yes we all are.
Here is a challenge for you and everyone who reads this. Go to school or work and take a look around. Who is that outsider that everyone makes fun of or ridicules. Be nice, befriend them and most importantly stand up for them. They may not be the best coworker or friend you ever have but you never know how you can change someone elses life, even your own. We are our brothers keepers.

No to your first question, we never had that problem in school, when one got in trouble we all came to the rescue. That tells you how old I am. Yes we maybe all part of the same society, but we are not responsible of someone who is old enough to make their own decisions. We maybe of one planet but we all have our own mines.

Everyone who has chosen a religion tends to embrace the better parts of their religion, while ignoring the downside.

It's like choosing to have a kid : you can't embrace the fact that he's the team's star QB, but ignore the fact that he sells drugs on the sly to make some extra scratch. It's a package deal.

I wasnt trying to push him toward any group but I hate it that some are trying to push him toward islam. Everything in the world is not islams fault ! :( We are all humans but unfortunately people dont care about that and direct hate toward certain groups. When that hate is directed toward my group what can I do but try to defend it

yes. if life was like that, perhaps he could have felt like he fit in with the people around him.

if he was a part of my team, then hopefully, he would have seen the beautiful things in life and not commit the crime he did.
