Today, a male goldfinch flew onto the patio screen door a few times. He has never done that! Do you know what could be the reason? While he was there, he was just looking around. Maybe he was just being curious? It was very exciting because I was standing right in front of the door. He was about 2 inches from me! What did he want?

thanks

Maybe he just wanted to meet you. Once in my backyard, a few years ago, there were maybe like 20 or so sitting on the fence. They may migrate.

He may have been looking for a suitable site to build a nest or suitable nesting material. Just be glad you were able to see such a beautiful bird up close.

He is seeing his reflection or is going for the bugs that often hang out near windows.. you can try putting something shiney that moves outside the window, like old CD's or aluminum pie tins, if the problem persists or your worried :)
