It is a fatalistic expression. Everything is going well, but there is a cloud on the horizon, so things turn out unfortunately. It is as though a cruel fate were determined to spoil thngs.

Absolutely nothing. It is just people trying to throw their misfortune on luck. Sure, blame God, fortune, luck, mother nature or whatever you believe in for your own misery.

To me, that's the greatest sign of weakness.
