It is true that for a few seconds if the head is not properly shaken, blood remains going to the brain the person is still alive after they have been guillotined. This was one of the reasons why the death penalty was abolished in France.

So yes the brain can still be alive afterwards. In history there are cases of people blushing and blinking and twitching.

Both, but the consciousness is with the head and the body is merely twitching because of nerves settling down and not to do with voluntary impulses.

only alive until you bleed out & considering major arteries are involved, I would think it would only be a matter of seconds or a minute.

I think it's a moot point to try to narrow it down to 'which' part is actually alive.... but the brain would be the only 'conscious' part, I mean if anyone were to touch your body, you wouldn't actually FEEL it because your brain is where your sense of touch actually is.

How do you know if the head knows what is going on? Have you ever asked someone who just had their head cut off?

It's not really "alive" its that you're nerves haven't realized that you're dead yet. So you can't really classify it as living, its more just being there.
