I work in a pharmacy and the pharmacist recommends not taking more than 3500mg per 24 hours some of the books say a maximum of 4000mg per 24 hours. Just remember that taking tylenol frequently and in high doses just puts you at risk for liver problems. Please take with caution.

Follow the directions on the bottle. It is unadviseable to take more than 1500 mg at one time. Tylenol does not just run through your system. It has a tendency to build up in your liver. If you take Tylenol every day, you are risking liver damage and/or liver failure.
If you have constant pain (no matter what the cause), you need to speak with your doctor about pain relief. I have constant back pain and I use ice/heat treatments and massage to relieve my pain.
I do have a script for pain medication but I take it as needed...maybe once or twice a week (I use Toradol). I typically take a Toradol after a 24 hour shift at work (I'm an EMT). I do a lot of heavy lifting.

I usually take Aleve... It's better than Tylenol as my father says... I usually take 3 when I should be taking only 2, but that's because I'm heavy set. Mainly use as directed on the bottle. Doesn't Tylenol have a back with words on it?

You need to read the label and take as directed. IF your pain is severe and Tylenol just doesn't do a thing for it, check with your doctor to see what you should take for pain, especially if you have been told not to take aspirin.
Excedrin is an excellent pain reliever. Advil works well in some people. But as a doctor...don't experiment with your health.

The most I've taken was 3 tabs, and that was after I knew they were 500mg each, after that, no more headache for the rest of the week! Take the smallest dosage, and after 20 minutes, if you're not feeling better, take another tab. Then you'll know how much you need, and that should be the dosage you follow, and you have a better chance of not taking too much and getting sick from it.

The highest amount of tylenol a healthy adult can take daily is 4000 mg (4 gm). Any more than that and you risk harming your liver.
