It is not based on age. It is based on years of service. You can retire at 20 years or stay longer. The amount of pay goes up the longer you wait.

Age 34, assuming enlistment at age 17 with a parental waiver. Early retirement at the 15-year mark is possible for reduced benefits, so long as you qualify and are approved for early retirement.
Retirement in the military is based on years of service, not on current age.

well as far as the U.S. Military goes, the youngest you can enlist is at 17 (with parental consent). You have to serve 20 years to retire, so the youngest age would be 37. If you enlisted at 18, it would be 38. At 20, it would be 40, etc etc.

Conceivably, a twenty year man can retire at thirty six years old. This is assuming that he joined up at seventeen and spent a minimum of nineteen years and five months in the military.

37yrs old. I joined when I was seventeen. You can retire after 20. Might as well stick it out the whole 30 years and have a fat retirement at 47yrs old.
