People don't believe in themselves anymore. Government and religion have taught them that they aren't smart enough or good enough to determine their own destinys. An example of that was the reaction of a great many people in New Orleans during Katrina. They sat in their homes waiting for the wonderful government to come and get them instead of trying to save themselves. At Virginia Tech no one stopped the gun man when they had a chance. As a group they could have and didn't. I am not criticizing them just pointing out that people in general aren't being taught that they can take action and have good come out of it. AS a result people who shouldn't be in control are. I try to think and dwell on the few times that people do make a choice that gives me hope. Like the plane load of people who made the choice to take the plane down during the 9/11 attack. They died but saved so many. They make me proud to be an American.
