It's not. Not only is it legal, it's extremely fun.

It's not illegal, but I don't think it's right just to burn the flag. If you hate the US that bad, go away...
The only time a flag should be burned is in a respectful manner- they actually have places that you can take old flags to be retired and burned.

It isn't. There are, however, a large number of people who feel it should be. Making it illegal though would require an amendment to the Constitution as the Supreme Court holds that flag burning is a protected form of speech under the First Amendment.
----------------------
Trinity:
The Flag Code (the regulations for the care, display, and disposal of the flag) states that the only reason to destroy the flag is if it is damaged beyond repair. The reason for not allowing the flag to touch the ground is simply so it does not get dirty or worn. Should a flag fall in the dirt or mud, the proper course of action is to follow the manufacturer's recommended washing instructions (dry cleaning, clothes washer, hose-down) and fly it proudly once it is clean.

It is not illegal to burn the flag. The US Supreme Court ruled a few years ago that the people have the Constitutional Right to burn the flag if they want to.
However, I find that very disturbing, because if you wish to show your anger at the government, there are other means to do so, peacefully, and without desecrating our Flag.

hey come on why pin point only a specific country.
Any self respecting country will have this as an illegal activity.
One has to be loyal to one's country and also show respect if one cant respect one's country he/ she woudn't be able to respect any other country or in simple terms any other human.
So i guess its a very logical law that its ilegal toburn any individual country's flag irrespective of the fact that it's being burnt by the individual of that particular country or of any other county's national burning some other country's flag.
Respect self and respect all.
It's not a flag.. its an Identity like as you have a birth mark on your body or something as basic as your name.
Please its just an opinion i'm not there to hurt anyone's feelings live and let live. be happy always.

it is not unlawful to burn the yankee flag.... in spite of the undeniable fact that i think of it will be. heavily... how are you able to coach an American FREEDOM of speech... by DENOUNCING the source of that freedom? HELLOOOO? pay attention for the hippies. while their Che Guevera flags initiate burning, they could singe their wiry hair while they combat to gentle their joint from the burning flag. Hippies don't be attentive to what they stand for... they only like exhibiting as much as protests. It makes them experience like they have carried out some thing of their otherwise wasted lives.

Unless I have missed a recent development, it is legal, just immoral. In some countries if you burn the flag you will be shot.

First Amendment protections prevent such a law from getting passed. I'd never burn an American flag (except to dispose of it), but it's my right that I choose not to...just as it's another's right to choose to burn it.

It's not illegal, it's protected under the first amendment of our constitution. Also, when a flag is retired, they burn it.

Well, considering that's it's a symbol of our national pride and heritage, it should be against the law, even though it's not. But then again, no ones ever said that you couldn't just go into your backyard and do it anyways. And once you burn the american flag, TAKE ON THE CANADIENS.
