Well, in my book, it is not a sin, but also in the same book, you don't get closer to God by killing yourself. You get closer to God by realizing we are all children of the same Father = GOD and we need to help each other have the basic necessities in life. That's what GOD wants. So to get closer to GOD, go out and help someone less fortunate than yourself, and do something good for them. That's how you find GOD. Yes, I know you DON"T learn THIS type of spirituality in churches, but you should, and you can read it for yourself in the Bible. (Modern version is best). But, that's another entire story.

It doesn't state in the bible whether it is sin or not. That is one of the unanswered questions for a good reason. I believe it is sin. It messes with God's plan in your life. We are supposed to die in His time, not ours. Being closer to God is done here on Earth by reading is word and inviting Him into your heart. I believe it is a sin, because murder is a sin and that is what suicide is, taking a human life. You have no right to take life.

I would say that committing suicide is a sin. It is up to God to judge whether or not the person's standing with Jesus Christ at the time of the act was such that the soul of the dead person would go to heaven or not. If you have not given your life to God and accepted His Son as your personal Savior when you kill yourself, I really don't know where you would spend eternity. God decides when it's our time to die, and if for no real good reason we kill ourselves, I have strong doubts about our salvation, but I'm not anyone's judge. Thank the Lord for that.

Yes it is a sin. Cause you don't have to kill your self to be closer to god. And only god has the right to decide when we live or die, so you have no right to play god and take your life. It won't make you closer to god it will take you farther away from him. The say that people who kill them self go to hell. So be a better person try harder go to church, pray and devote yourself to god not kill your self to get closer.

hmmm well in terms of killing your self people only do it when there desperate, there not happy and have no other choice. if that was happeneing i could understand why some one would do that. But to do it to get closer to god shouldnt be the aim. think about the effects on your family and friends would they want you to kill yourself? so if the aim is to get to god i dont think god would want you to kill yourself or he wouldnt of given you life. like you say the aim is to get closer to god but wait until he wants to meet you and dont take it into your own hands

It depends on what your beleifs are, In most religions, it is a sin. However there are some "cults" who beleive in ascension, and you may have heard on the news a few years back of a whole group of people commiting suicide, but to them its not suicide because they are ascending.

So the answer to your question is it depends on what your beliefs are.

you cannot kill yourself to be closer to god, because if you beleive in a god, you must also beleive that he put you on this planet for a purpose, so don't go running back to him, he might not be best pleased.

It's right in the Ten Commandments: DO NOT KILL applies to yourself too. It's a bit of a cop-out, don't you think? The easy way out? Obedience is being closer to God, helping everyone else follow Christ until your last breath. Right?

Your time is up to God... Yes, it is a sin... even if one is mentaly ill it would still be a sin as sin is any act that is against the Word or Will of God. If one is of The Church (saved) then it would not keep one out of heaven as it is not sin that keeps anyone out of Heaven.

Yes! It is a sin! A Major Sin.

If you want to be closer to God; Follow God's Plan for your life.

That Plan Does NOT Include your suicide!

If your mind is telling you that you will be closer to God if you do this; it is lie! Satan whispering sweet nothings in your ear.

Go for couseling.... You will not regret it.

Suicide is murder of self and one of God's commandments in Christianity says "thy shall not kill."

So, yes, I do believe suicide is a sin.

To me, suicide is a permanent solution to whatever is a tempory storm, test, or trial, and suicide seems to be, in my honest opinion, showing God that you lack FAITH that God will give you whatever patience and strength you need to get through all God will carry you through, so you end up being in the place where God needs you, and being who God created you to be, because in choosing suicide, you ultimately give up on life, when God gave you life.

It's a gift, but in giving that life up, you show lack of appreciation for all the opportunities, people, and things you can and should enjoy as you experience within your life.

When God wants you closest to God, I guarantee you God will call you 'home' by claiming your life, by your death.
