He's a chihuahua/ boston terrier... if that matters any, and he has really short hair.

Using human shampoo is not a good idea. It won't damage the dog's fur, but it has a different pH balance and can dry out and irritate the dogs skin. (However, you can use either human conditioner or dog conditioner on dogs.) Best to make a run to the store when you can and get some more dog shampoo.

Do you have any baby wipes laying around? If you're really in a pinch, you can wipe down the dogs fur with baby wipes. This won't be as effective as an actual bath, but if you're desperate, it can help a little bit.

In a pinch, human shampoo is fine. But for longterm use, the pH of human shampoo is not correct for dogs, and will cause dry skin, itching, poor coat quality, etc. Why is your GF using Herbal Essences if there is dog shampoo in the house? There are different dog shampoos with different scents if she doesn't like the scent of your current dog shampoo - maybe take her shopping with you next time so she can pick out one she likes.

Definitely not a good idea. Of all the doggy cleaning supplies I've tried, www.kelcoshampoo.com has the best. It is super concentrated and good for the environment (+ a lot of other great benefits). I use the bubble neen shampoo and the ultra silk conditioner on my maltese/schnauzer. Take a look at the website then you know what to look for at the pet store. Usually the vet's office carry it, but you may want to call and check first. Have fun!

It's not that it will damage the hair in one use, but it will most likely irritate his skin. Give him a good brushing, it will help to loosen and take away some of the debris that is adding to the odor. But, wait until you can get to the store for pet shampoo to actually bath him.

It probably won't matter, it just depends on the type of shampoo you have. If there are any perfumes in it then I suggest to think a little while on whether or not you NEED to bathe him. He may get an allergic reaction to it. Hope that helps.

No it's not bad but it could dry the skin out really badly. what you can do is to water down the human shampoo so it's not as strong and rinse your dog off really well. OK

Yes. The only human shampoo that is okay to use on your dog is baby shampoo.

Try just bathing him with warm water until you can get to the store. Human shampoo may irritate his skin.

You might be able to get away with using baby shampoo on him. But I don't suggest using people shampoo on puppies- especially small breeds like yours.
