Did she cause it for female mammals in the animal kingdom as well?
All mammals that are female have an estrus cycle (heat) and they shed blood, their cycle is just different from a human, but it's to allow the same thing...conception and pregnancy.
It hurts all mammals to give birth. From dolphins to cats, pain can be seen in their eyes, actions and heard in their sounds they make while giving birth.
So, did Eve's eating of the fruit cause this "curse" to spread to female mammals too? Or is it just coincidence that humans and other female mammals bear young in pain and bleed?
Or perhaps, is it just simple physiology and hormonal make up of the female species to allow us to carry and bring forth "life"?
A baby can't be expelled without contractions of the uterus. hence, pain. This is physiological. So how did Eve cause this?

me either couldn't understand this, Any logical person can think that pregnancy is a curse in christianity(womens has been degraded?) there fore whole humanity is born in sin?, And thats the reason juses sacrified himself for our sin? if jesus is the only son of god?, if that is so? do god really need to crusify his only son? why cant god forgive sin of whole humanity whithout sacrifiying his own son? And why whole humanity need to accountable for the mistake made by Eve, Did Eve asked us before eating the fruit? why whole humanity is blamed for her wrong doing? you are wright it dosent makes sence,

I think that the whole Adan and Eve story is related to what really happened to humankind and evolution. Let me explain this: when "women" were primates only, they had no pain. We also know that much of the pain and "suffering" come both from the development of the human brain and the skull expantion: we have a bigger brain, but the development of the pelvis was not so fast. The pelvis is still narrow. Besides, the pain comes from the fact that modern human give birth in a no-natural way: if you watch aboriginal people and many other cultures, women run and dance when they are going to give birth, in some they run and hang from a tree branch, pushing the baby down. The story is a symbol of what really happened: when humankind became more aware and developed consciousness (the metaphor is the tree of knowledge), the brain developed too. It was harder for women to give birth because of the size of the baby's brain. Eve was the past of the human race...or, she was the symbol of the old days when women gave birth like animals do, running and moving and then going to a place where they felt safe to have their babies.

Sigh...you know....when the Christians swept through europe with their little blood bath genocide on women they tore all our empowerment away regarding all this stuff. When they came to noerth America they tryed to do the same ting to indigionous societies. Fortunatly some of the truth tremains and at least some of us are slowly retrieving it.
I love science. I believe science is a great thing. However, it is a work in progress and you have to keep a critical eye on it. It does so itself...at ist's best!
Does anyone know where the meaning of hysteria came from. It used to be that male doctors believed that a womans uterous could move from her pelvus up to her skull. Yes that 's right...into her head. There, it created a condition known as hysteria. The woman would be made to lay down and all sorts of ridiculous and uncomfortable treatments would be redered to coax it back into place. How delightful.
Fertility in the female is a sacred trust whethewr we choose to exercise that aspect of our being is in our trust. If we were really respected as women, our ownership, our condition would be honored not scorned.
Look at the lack of research into things like Fibroid tumors in women. The only official treatment is hyterectomy. This speakes volumes as to where we are in Western society.
Else where I hear it's even worse. Anyone have a story to add? Fibroids are hormonally induced or agrevated. There are things called, oh I foreget their actual name...the exaust fumes from cars, some plastics and other environmental factors produce something that our brains as women think are hormones! So, our bodies react to them as such. If we were honored, if our societies really cared anbout us these things would be outlawed.
Instead we are courted by cosmetics, many containing things that are also unhealthy for us and could be made to be healthy.
It is a constant battle to maintain even a modest level of health standards in products made for women. Not just us either...for everyone. Steven Harpers government recently approved the use of Aspestos in childrens toys! Come on! We can never let down our vigelance...sigh.
So your Adam and Eve thing. It is a power play over women telling us not to think for ourselves, not to be intelligent, all we are supposed to to is cleave to our husbands, raise the kids and clean the house...oh yah...and make super on time and all that survile stuff and feel guilty for the very things that should empower us!.
No thanks.
Women risk their lives in order that our species continues! We are the first warriors! We should be honored not scorned.
Peace beloved sisters!
Understanding, knowledge and humanity! Peace!

No one who knows anything, blames women. They were both to blame...and they both fell from grace and are still paying for it. It is our first lesson on human nature. How many children do you know that will do something just because they were told not to?
Yes, God said that there would be pain from childbirth for women. He didn't say anything about the animals, however.
How are contractions psychological?
Hey, did you know that Eve didn't recieve her name until AFTER she left The Garden? Yup, untill that they were 'one' and shared the same name. Really...look it up. Anyway, that's an interesting question...
(oh, nice avitar...are you one of those militant types?)

That's a new one. I didn't know that Christians blamed Eve for periods - and I studied theology for years. I guess they probably took literally that whole "through pain you shall bear" text. "Bruise the heel, bruise his head" etc etc. All flowery language by the convention of King James to soften the blow of the reality of the science, through religious mind control. A brilliant tactic if you ask me. Look how long it has lasted?

Notice how only non-believers are really answering this question while the Christians are kind of skirting around it?
I have to agree that this was just a myth that was used to explain female physiology (probably created by men) because they didn't understand it.

My understanding is that the way our pelvis must be shaped for humans to stand upright, plus the relatively large heads humans have, is what makes childbirth significantly more painful for humans than for other animals. Interesting, isn't it, that those are pretty much what we see as synonymous with being human? Or yeah, that and the knowledge of good and evil.

it was just a story - probably meant to explain sin (even crimes against the tribe could be called sin) and the pain of childbirth. Myth does that quite a bit, actually - combines different explanations into one story. It's what we told each other around the fire at night way back then.

Actually, if I WERE to believe in the story of Adam and Eve, I would say that Eve was the smart one. If God didn't want them to eat of the tree of "knowledge of good and evil" He wouldn't have made such a fuss about it, or he would have put it some place they couldn't reach.
Women RULE!
