My nans dog has a tic.I heard that putting vaseline on it kills it (I hope it does because we did it), it sorta suffocates it, and it dies.Does this work?If not please post a reply that will.

Nope, it doesn't work... You should get tweezers and remove it properly. Don't squeeze the head.. Don't use motor oil, don't burn it with a match.... Just pull it straight out.. Can be tough, but keep up the pressure and pull straight up and out..

Some say it works but the very best thing to do is get a pair of tweezers and get really close to the dogs skin and pull the tick out. The longer it stays on the dog the long it can infect the dog. So just pull it off and dispose of the tick. Put a dab of antibiotic cream on the spot where the tick was.

We have ticks in our back yard and our dogs pick them up all the time. We spray the yard but that doesn't kill all the ticks. Anyway, I went to the pet store and got a tick remover. It looks like a little measuring spoon with a slit at the end of the cup. You just put the slit on the dog's skin where the tick is attached and pull it out. The tick comes out intact every time. I like it because I don't have to worry about the head coming off and being stuck in my dog like sometimes happens with tweezers. I also put Frontline on my dogs once a month and do daily tick checks just to be safe. Hope that helps. =)

I can guarantee that taking it to a vet will work. It's better to have a vet remove the tick - it's a bit tricky, and if the mouth parts are left behind, an infection and abscess can result.

Regular use of Frontline (available from vets) also treats ticks. If you put Frontline on a tick, it will drop off within a few hours. I wouldn't bother using vaseline, it doesn't always work, whereas Frontline does. You'll need to use Frontline anyway, or Advantix, to prevent futher ticks, so you may as well start now!
