Bound's hubby here:

Firing rifled slugs out of a full choke is safe for both the shooter and the gun .... However, continued use of rifled slugs (or the old "pumkin balls") will blow out the choke, and you will no longer shoot shot like a full choke.

Good luck!

Many slugs are made full choke safe, and a few not safe. Might want to check the manufactures info.
If you look at most slugs they are soft and deeply fluted "rifled", this allows for a degree of compression when passing through the choke section.

An option is the sabbots that use a plastic sleave around the slug. But again some may be designed for smooth or rifled bore and could be unsafe.

Some slugs are designed for smooth bore (no choke) and would be unsafe, some designed for rifled barrels and would be unsafe, others are designed to be used through chokes and are undersized, softer and fluted to allow passage through the choke. If in doubt take it to a gun shop.

Email mike and he will send you his catalog.

He can do the job. Ken is a choke guy you will also need to be there when the chokes are cut as the gun is patterned while you are shooting it, chokes cut shoot again..

I once picked up a Winchester 37A barrel at an auction that had an inch split in the barrel tip. It had really nice Williams rifle sights installed (front ramp was loose) and was obviously someone's idea of a slug gun. I bought it for the sights. Paid like $6 if I recall. Planned to trash the barrel.

Upon getting it home under good light, I saw that the barrel was practically new. Spotless bluing etc.

I ended up cutting/facing it back to 26", reinstalled the loose front ramp, bought the parts here and there and ended up with a really fine slug gun myself. One of my favorite project guns I've built over the years.

Slugs through full chokes? I'd say it can be done once or twice. Would I do it? Not on your life! If you decide to do it, I'll give you $6 for the barrel.

You could but it will not be advisable! I would check the makers recommendations on this before I would test out!How about just buying a gun witha slug barrel!
