No, it's just something for people to rally around. It doesn't even have to exist for that to happen, only make people believe it does.

No idea. But I like to ask, is it really necessary to find the ark of covenant when the prefect sacrifice has been given to us? Anyway, the detail of the ark has been given to all in the bible. So in the future, if a replica appears and claimed that was the one, how would one know?

although the historical arc may very well be hidden in africa somewhere, the true and timeless arc of the covenant is not. that covenant is inbedded in humanity and in nature and does not belong to anyone nation or people. only the penant, someone willing to give up his ideas of how things should be, his righteousness, all holds, assertions, assumptions...seeing as if for the very first time,"like adam refreshed from his sleep in the bauer"( walt whitman), with an open heart and ready mind can see what is written there. that arc i hope people would really try to find no matter what their place in the world is.

Jeremiah 3:16 say,"Then it shall come to pass, when you are multiplied and increased in the land in those days", says the Lord, "that they will say no more, "The Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. It shall not come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they visit it, nor shall it be made anymore". All these people who claim they have the ark are liars. Here you've read it for yourself in the bible.

I think the ark of the covenant has been melted down and the gold was used for something else...maybe a statue of Zues of the Egyptian cat god or something.

There is speculation that it could well be but I think personally that it is a prefabricated replica and it serves to keep the people`s mysticism healthy.
