I hope I'm not casting my pearls before swine, but I've come to realize that in some ways I was blessed to have such an unbearably hard childhood because it lead to to a deep and constant prayer life. Life was HARD, very, very hard. I was physically and emotionally abused by my mother (she was mentally ill) and I was molested by an older brother from age 3-13. What got me through that? Even though my mother was mentally ill, she took me to church and Sunday School every Sunday. I had an awesome teacher and the people in my church loved me very much. God was very real to me and I was quite literally taught from birth that I could talk to Him at any moment about anything, that He listened and He cared about me. He proved that over and over through 47 years of a VERY tough life. I have kept a running conversation going with Him for as long as I can remember -- and it isn't always reverent, but it's always REAL. I have (more than once) said to Him "I am really pissed at You right now!" I have screamed at Him. I have cried to Him. I have sang to Him. I love Him with a passion that is unmatched.
No, I'm not ultra holy! Please don't think that! (Just read all my other answers and you'll find proof of that!) I'm a real person and my faith and my prayer life are very real and very deep.

well for me to be able to answer your question...u must be able to tell me WHY you have a hard time praying except at night.
I just pray to God when i feel like it....when im in school...sometimes i will just start talking to Him. just talking to Him is a form of prayer. tell Him about our thoughts and feelings. and even thought He already knows, tell Him what had been happening in your day so far. He likes to listen to you. Ask God to help you in prayer. Go to church and go to some group things they may have at the church...and im sure they will pray..and when they do pay attention to the prayer. and you will find that you like talking to God....because you feel like He is your friend, and then you will want to talk to Him more often. and you will.

Yes, look at prayer as a walkie talkie; you are in a war and you need to be talking to the general.
Have you read any books on prayer? Or listened to any sermons? I suggest: http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/TopicIndex/35/

YES! I have been there too! It is how we get closer to GOD! If we have friends we dont talk to they will not be in our life long~ WE have to set a time to pray! I pray on and off all day though! Just talk to GOD ! No fancy words neeeded! JUST tell HIM your heart! You are in my prayers~ AMY

About a year ago, my paster told us we should read our bibles every single day no matter what. I took this to heart and have read my Bible almost every single day since last year. It really helps me with my quiet time with God. I ask Him to be like the people i read about or not to be if they are sinning. Just a little time with God is all you need.

I am proudly a Christian, but I haven't been praying as much as I should. I need to, and I think I'm going to start. My parents don't take me to church, so I try to go with friends. I haven't read the bible much either, but I will start.

Of course there isn't any supernatural being listening to you. However, it is a form of meditation, stopping the busy life and thinking about things. Perhaps it gives you a chance to reflect on what is important in your life. Praying for your parents or friends might make you think about how lucky you are to have them a little more...

I pray too... You don't have to be sure that God exists, it's enough that you believe that there is someone who will help you, and you immediately feel better.

I dont pray anymore. I figure if God exists he would already know what I want so what would be the point of asking if hes already got it all planned out anyway?

If your god is omniscient, he already knows what you're thinking. It's a waste of time praying to him.
Edit: Also, listen to the smart guy underneath me.
