Our dog was rescued too and wouldn't eat on her own. For the first few days, she ate out of our hands. Then we started having her eat out of our hand, then we'd put the food on the ground. She started eating it from there. Eventually she ate out of her bowl. It's like she didn't realize the bowl of food was hers. If this doesn't work, definately see a vet.

Sounds like you're doing great! Border Collie's are wonderful dogs, very loyal. He must have been very traumatized not to want to eat...You have to be patient and keep helping him out by hand feeding him. Make sure you are showing him the bowl of food, and that he sees you getting the pieces from the bowl, and hold it over the bowl and slowly encourage him in a soft, kinda high pitched voice when he does eat. Given time, patience, understanding and TLC the two of you will be the best of friends for life! You are a good person for saving him! Star for you!

Just give the poor baby time. No telling what he has been through.
Did you ask what kind of dog food they were feeding him at the shelter? It may take awhile for him to get used to the different food and his new home.
You have done a wonderful thing. To give this dog a second chance in life. Just show the dog where the food and water bowl is at. He will find it. Let the dog get use to the house and the surroundings . He will come around.
Show him where his bed is in the house so he can curl up when he wants.
Good Luck!!
I wish there were more people like you!!!

Our dog would not eat either for the first few days after we adopted her. She had spent the majority of her days locked in a kennel at her previous home. I can only assume she was so happy to have some attention, the food was not so important. Your question caught my eye because we also had to hand feed her, it was the only way she would eat a little. Her appetite quickly picked up after she became comfortable in our home.

There could be many reasons why he won't eat. Stress, health problems, or he could be just taking longer to settle in. Don't overcrowd him so that he's too scared but make him feel welcome and secure. One way to speed the process is to spoil him with caned dog food. they usually can't resist that. when i first got my dog he wasn't eating but i figured out he doesn't eat when i'm around so that may be the case with your new collie. good luck !

I would take him to the veterinarian. He might have
medical issues that are internal.
