I have just reserved a long awaited silver bengal kitten and i'm going to see her next week. I have already bought blankets and bedding for her - do you think that i should take along a blanket so that she can get her scents and smells on it so that when i bring her home in about another 8 weeks she will have something that she is used to, or do you think that it will make her miss her mum more when she leaves?

Hi!
Awww, how cute :-) Mai is a really pretty name too!
Taking a blanket for her is a great idea. The owners of our kitten also called him by the name we'd given him (Morrissey) until we were ready to pick him up :-)
I don't think it will make him miss his family more, it will probably be comforting for him. You could also buy him a soft toy to bring with him when he moves to yours. Many kittens like to sleep with soft toys, play fight with them and carry them around like the toy is a kitten (my cat does these thigns!).
Your kitten might cry for the first few nights, wondering where his family is - but this will quickly improve by the end of the first week. If you wrap a warm water bottle in a thick towel and place this in his bed for the first week or so, this also apparently helps them to sleep, as they find it comforting.
Congratulations and I hope it all goes well!
xx Emmie

I think you have a very good idea! You should leave her the blanket so she can be familiar with your scent. Maybe you should use it overnight first to really get your smell in there. I think it would make her more at ease when she finally gets to her new home and it has a familiar smell. You are smart! Star for you!

bring the blanket, but be sure to wash it in mild detergent to remove the new stink smell from it....also sleep with the blanket or something to get your smell all over it...(seriously, not making a funny) this new scent will be a comfort to the new kitty.....i think it is a wonderfull idea, of course it may become a community blankee for the whole litter but that is even better

I think that is a great idea! If she gets used to the blanket then it should be a comfort to her. Then when you bring her home if she is a lilttle bit scared at first the blanket will calm her. This is a great way for her to settle in to her new home. great thinking!
