Probably because some people have had bad experiences with perms so assume all perms are bad.
Not all perms are good for all hair. It's important to have a beautician who will listen to your concerns and has experience with the products she/he uses.
Over processing can burn your hair and most that can be done is allow it to grow out.
I've had many many wonderful perms. And I've had some clunkers. Right now I don't use perms as I am wearing my hair ultra short and don't need it.

TheyARE bad. I have never seen a woman that got a perm and actually looked good. I used to work at hair salon and always tried to talkk people out of perms of those who didnt listen they would come to me and say wow I look like crap, my hair is ruined I should have listened to you. My mom used to perm her hair all the time and since she stopped two years ago her hair has FINALLY started to look semi healthy. They use harsh chemicals that dry out and severly damage your hair. if you are under 50 DO NOT GET A PERM. It is an outdates hair style anyways. You can not achieve the pretty loose curls your naturally curly haird friends have through a perm. You will look like a frizzy haired poodle. Trust me.

Due to the harsh nature of the chemicals, it is important that contact with the skin be minimized. Modern chemicals are less irritating, but measures should still be taken to reduce contact with anything other than hair.
A poorly performed permanent wave will result in breakage of the disulfide bonds through chemical reduction, because it fails to fix the newly formed bonds. This results in hair that is no longer elastic and flexible, but brittle and fragile. At this point, even combing the hair will result in hair loss. The hair shafts will experience fracture where they exit the scalp. Because the bulb of hair has not been removed though, the hair follicle is not damaged and the hair will regrow; however, the temporary hair loss may be distressing.

perming uses strong chemicals on your hair & it is hard on your hair. That hasn't stopped people from getting perms. Also, if you color your hair it will probably ruin your color unless you have a professional give you the perm.

Perming hair is not bad it's just another process that is damaging to hair. But good maintainence and care can make it worthwhile.

They aren't bad if you do them occasionally. But any treatment that fries your hair like that is bad. It dries it out. But some people like themselves with curly hair better and it's easier for them, instead of waking u p and curling it every morning by themselves.

It has way too many chemicals in it and burns out your hair and makes it really straight and thin. Its best to be natural.
