I was given this diagnosis at the age of 15, but recently a therapist told me that there is no way to diagnose a 15 with this disorder. Is he right? I am now 23.

Mental health diagnoses are best left to psychiatrists. You could also get a second opinion.

We have a 20 y.o. son whom we believe has BPD.

His p-doc would not give him the diagnosis yet, instead saying that he has "borderline tendencies."

The way it was explained to me is that BPD is a personality disorder, for which there is no cure or meds that will help. (HOWEVER: there is therapy that can help the BPD person cope with life. Check into DBT therapy). Giving someone this diagnosis (especially at the age of 15) is pretty much writing the person off.

Our son's p-doc said a BPD diagnosis should only come when the person is older and then you can look back at failed relationships and patterns of behavior which repeat themselves for a number of years.

Does your therapist think you have BPD now at the age of 23?
