In 2000 he was shot at close range with a 9mm pistol. He survived because no vital organs were hit and he went straight to hospital afterwards.
There are conflicting reports about the number of shots that hit him and the places he was hit. It is likely that this story has been greatly exaggerated.
In 2003 he was shot at with a 0.40 & a 0.45 but was not hit.

Yea 45 caliber is more powerful than what he was shot with.

All guns are powerful, but just because someone gets shot it doesn't mean they'll die. Bullets act very strangely in the human body. I've heard true stories of people either commiting suicide or getting shot in the head and the bullet just stayed between the skin and the skull and left again. Unless the person is shot in a vital organ, especially the heart, or the head, or a major artery is hit, you usually survive.

.45ACP is powerful, but it's power is so horribly overrated by American gun culture.
It's considered the all American cartridge, one shot one kill, blow a hole the size of your fist in a person, kind of round.
In all truth though, there are plenty of other rounds which match and exceed its performance. Many standard .40SW loads have higher energy than .45ACP ones, +P 9mm cartridges can easily get right up to around the energy of them. Many others exceed them.
.45ACP has a large, compared to most other common auto loader pistol rounds, bullet that moves relatively slowly in comparison to most others such as 9mm, .40S&W, etc. etc.
Against body armour, .45ACP has among the worst performance since its size spreads out the impact more greatly and its low velocity gives it little penetration power.
It doesn't matter what calibre you are shot by, shot placement is the factor. If you are shot in the arm with a .500 S&W round, it's going to take a big chunk out, maybe even take your arm off, but if you get to medical attention you'll survive. If you are shot right in the gut with a .22lr round it likely won't stop you on the scene, but it could damage vital organs, created a festering wound that gets infected and you might die in hospital days later.
All in all, a pretty dumb question even for someone ignorant of firearms information.

Gunshot victims die from three causes: rapid exsanguination (blood loss), central nervous system hits, or infection. Handgun caliber bullets typically do not travel fast enough to do much damage outside of the small permanent wound channel they create, so unless you bleed out before receiving care or you get shot in the spinal cord or brain, you only have to deal with infection which is generally manageable.

It is the luck of the draw. I was shot with a .44 mag in the arm and a .22 in the hand it missed all vital arteries thus I'm still alive do the same with the next person and they may not be as lucky.

You are confusing size and power. Caliber refers to the size of the bullet. You need to know the nature of the bullet and the charge that fires the bullet, in order to know the energy of the shot. A gun that can fire ".45 magnum" bullets is stronger than one that can only fire ordinary bullets of the same caliber.
Other elements enter into the damage-causing ability of the bullet also.

I friend of mine was home on medical leave from the army. One of his fellow soldiers grabbed my friends gun out of his holster, pointed at his chest, pulled the trigger. Since he had just gotten off guard duty the gun was locked and loaded. He showed my the hole dead center in his breast bone. Nothing vitla was hit and he recoverd quite well.
